Himachal Pradesh AAP chief Surjit Thakur took a dig at the BJP over PM Modi's frequent visits to the state and said that it is a reflection of the ruling party's failure to fulfil the poll promises.
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Monday said education is the topmost priority of his government, as he asserted that if children will get quality education, they will reach great heights in their career. He said this while taking part in the Maharishi Valmiki Prakatotsav programme organised in Aliganj and Palika Kunj of his constituency, according to an official statement. "Maharishi Valmiki and Babasaheb Ambedkar gave utmost importance to quality education of children. Education is our topmost priority in Delhi; if children will get quality education, they will reach great heights in their career, their families will prosper and the country will progress. If children remain uneducated, their family lags behind and remains poor," Kejriwal said. He urged people to pay utmost attention to the education of children. "If they become well-educated, they will support their parents and take care of them in old age. In Delhi, education and healthcare is our top priority. This is my
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday claimed that many leaders and workers of the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in Gujarat secretly support his Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) and want to see the defeat of their own party in the upcoming Assembly elections. Targeting the BJP over the posters that surfaced in several Gujarat cities on Saturday in which he was termed as "anti-Hindu", the AAP's national convener said those behind the posters were "demons and descendants of Kans". "Many BJP leaders and workers meet me and secretly ask me to do something to defeat the ruling party. I would like to tell all the BJP workers and leaders who want to defeat their party to work secretly for AAP," he said at a rally in tribal-dominated Valsad district in Gujarat, where Assembly polls are slated to be held in the next couple of months. "We have to break 27 years of their (BJP's) arrogance. I know you have your businesses, if you join us they will damage your business. You stay there, but .
RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat must explain why it is always someone from the upper castes heading the organisation, the AAP demanded on Saturday, a day after his remark that concepts such as varna and jaati should be completely discarded. The Arvind Kejriwal-led party also attacked the BJP, saying it has "divided the country the most in the name of varna (class), jaati (caste) and dharma (religion)". At a book release function in Nagpur on Friday, the chief of the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS), which is the ideological fountainhead of the BJP, had said the caste system has no relevance now and concepts such as varna and jaati should be completely discarded. "When he says such things, I want to ask the RSS chief why it is always someone from the upper castes who becomes the RSS chief," Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Durgesh Pathak said when asked by reporters for his comment on Bhagwat's remark. He, however, did not give any details on the caste of all the individuals who have headed th
In a no holds barred letter to Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, LG VK Saxena has accused him and his ministers of running away from their constitutional duties and responsibility of governance in Delhi. In the letter dated October 7, Saxena also hit out at Kejriwal government saying its rule, based on "speeches and advertisement", was alienated from works of basic public interest. Saxena's letter comes days after Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia accused him of interfering in AAP government's functioning and "unconstitutionally" setting up probes on its decisions and works. In a cheeky reply to Saxena, Kejriwal in a tweet on Saturday said: Another love letter has come. Kejriwal had earlier too taken a dig at the LG in a tweet saying he was scolded by Saxena more than he is scolded by his wife. The LG said that his letters and instructions were meant to caution the government against "errors and shortcomings" in its functioning yet he was personally attacked and became target of
The Aam Aadmi Party on Tuesday burnt effigies of Ravana at about 3,500 locations here in a symbolic protest against the BJP's "failure" in maintaining cleanliness in the capital. However, the effigies burnt by party leaders and workers were not made of garbage as announced by AAP's MCD poll incharge Dugesh Pathak on Monday. 'Ravana made of BJP's garbage' was written on all the effigies burnt during the protest, the party said. The party changed its plan to burn Ravana's effigies made of garbage in view of the ban on their open burning in the capital, according to party sources. All three erstwhile municipal corporations were ruled by the BJP till they were unified and renamed as the Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD) in May. "We got the feedback yesterday itself. That's why smaller effigies were used for a symbolic protest with a writing on them 'BJP Ke Koode Ka Ravan' so that they do not cause air pollution," a source in the party said. In a statement, the AAP said party leade
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday urged the people of Gujarat to vote for the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) in the upcoming state Assembly elections and help it win 150 out of the total 182 seats for a "big change". He also appealed to them not to vote for the Congress, saying that voting for it would help the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) win the election. Both the BJP and Congress were united in their aim to defeat the AAP, he claimed. Assembly elections in the BJP-ruled Gujarat are slated to be held by the end of this year. "Only 50 days are left. Push hard so that we get at least 150 seats. We need a big change, 90-95 seats will not do. People of Delhi gave us 67 seats out of 70, people of Punjab gave us 92 out of 117 seats. Will not the people of Gujarat defeat both Punjab and Delhi, break their record?" Kejriwal said while addressing a public rally in Surendranagar city. He also claimed that the Centre's Intelligence Bureau (IB) has said that the AAP will win by a
Preparations are underway to arrest Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) leader Raghav Chadha since he was appointed as the party's co-incharge of political affairs in Gujarat, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal claimed on Friday. Kejriwal, however, did not specify which agency was working on the alleged plan to arrest Chadha and on what charges. Rajya Sabha MP Chadha, who is credited with playing a significant role in the AAP's victory in the assembly elections in Punjab earlier this year, was recently appointed as co-incharge of the party's political affairs in Gujarat where elections are due this year. "We are hearing that these people will arrest Ragav Chadha now since he has been appointed as co-incharge of Gujarat and he has started participating in poll campaigns in Gujarat," Kejriwal, the AAP's national convenor, said in a Tweet in Hindi. "In which case they will (arrest) and what will be the allegations, these people are working on these points at present," he added. Kejriwal's claim
The Goa assembly elections were keenly fought with the Trinamool Congress and Aam Aadmi Party throwing their hats in the ring but when it came to poll expenditure, it was the Mamata Banerjee-led Trinamool Congress that loosened its purse strings spending a whopping Rs 47.54 crore. The BJP, which retained power in Goa with Chief Minister Pramod Sawant at the helm, spent over Rs 17.75 crore towards election expenditure in the state. The Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP spent nearly Rs 3.5 crore in Goa, where it tried its luck for the second consecutive assembly elections. The details of the election expenditure were submitted by the respective political parties to the Election Commission recently. The Congress, which was hoping to dislodge the BJP from power in Goa, spent approximately Rs 12 crore on the Goa elections. The Nationalist Congress Party gave Rs 25 lakh each to the 11 candidates it had fielded for the elections, besides spending on the campaign from the party's central fund. The
Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said if people of Gujarat bring the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) to power, then every child in the state will prosper. Kejriwal and Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann addressed a gathering of youth in Ahmedabad where Kejriwal targeted both the ruling BJP and opposition Congress in Gujarat, where the Assembly elections are due in December this year. "I was seeing a wonderful message being shared in a Gujarat WhatsApp group that I follow. It says if you vote for Congress, then Sonia Gandhi's son will prosper. If you vote for BJP, (Union Home Minister) Amit Shah's son will prosper, and if you vote for AAP, then every single child of Gujarat will prosper," the Delhi CM and AAP national convener said. Like the AAP governments provided 12 lakh jobs in Delhi and 20,000 in Punjab in less than six months, the party is committed to provide 10 lakh jobs in Gujarat when it comes to power in the state, he said. Kejriwal again listed the "job calendar" for Gujarat an

AAP leader and Delhi Minister Satyendar Jain on Friday approached the Delhi High Court challenging a trial court's order to transfer the money laundering case against him to another judge. Hours after the trial court's order, the plea was mentioned for urgent listing before a bench of Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Subramonium Prasad which allowed it for listing on Monday. Senior advocate Rahul Mehra, appearing for Jain, said he was challenging the transfer of matter to another judge as it was illegal. "The transfer (of case) was illegal," Mehra said. As the chief justice sought to know what was the urgency, the senior counsel said the trial court has kept it for hearing on Friday itself and the matter will be heard on a day-to-day basis. Jain has challenged the order of a district judge who, during the day, allowed an application by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) seeking transfer of the money laundering case against Jain to another judge. The agency sought tra

Metropolitan Magistrate Snehil Sharma granted relief to Khan, saying the accused has been in custody since September 16, and no further recovery was effected from him. Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia will visit the Sabarmati Ashram here Wednesday before embarking on the Aam Aadmi Party's campaign in BJP-ruled Gujarat where the Assembly polls are due later this year. After offering prayers at the Sabarmati Ashram, Sisodia will lead a 'Parivartan Yatra' in north Gujarat, AAP state chief Gopal Italia said. He will take part in a 'Tiranga Yatra' in Himmatnagar town of Sabarkantha and will also address gatherings in Taloj and Prantij towns of the district during the day, Italia said. On Tuesday, AAP national convener and Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal held a town hall meeting with parents and teachers in Vadodara. Kejriwal called for a "Bharatiya" or indigenous system of education in the country in place of the one inherited from the British. He had also said that India should become a destination for students from all over the world, like the Nalanda University was in ancient times.
Kejriwal was referring to the protest at Vadodara airport on Tuesday, when a group of forty to fifty persons chanted pro-Modi slogan, "Modi Zindabad" on his arrival.
The Opposition on Monday targeted Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, alleging that he was deplaned from a Delhi-bound flight at the Frankfurt airport as he was drunk, a charge denied by the ruling AAP as baseless. Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) chief Sukhbir Singh Badal alleged that Mann was deplaned from Lufthansa flight because of being in an inebriated state. Disturbing media reports quoting co-passengers say Pb CM @BhagwantMann was deplaned from Lufthansa flight as he was too drunk to walk. And it led to a 4-hour flight delay. He missed AAP's national convention. These reports have embarrassed & shamed Punjabis all over the globe, he tweeted. However, Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) chief spokesperson Malvinder Singh Kang called the allegations baseless and bogus, and accused the rival parties of indulging in a negative propaganda to defame the chief minister. The allegations are baseless, bogus and false, Kang said and alleged that the opposition parties were spreading canards against the

The Aam Aadmi Party on Saturday took a potshot at Prime Minister Narendra Modi on his birthday, calling him innovator-in-chief, technology geek and scientist par excellence while wishing him a "happy birthday". Modi turned 72 on Saturday. Happy Birthday to the innovator-in-chief, technology geek, scientist par excellence, the one and only - Modi ji, the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) tweeted from its official handle. Along with its post on the microblogging site, the party also shared old controversial video clips of the prime minister, including the one in which he told a news channel that he had used a digital camera to take a picture for the first time in 1987 or 88 and transmitted it to Delhi at a time when very few people had e-mail. While there was no immediate reaction from the BJP to the AAP's post, several Twitterati reacted sharply to the wishes. AAPIANS should be ashamed of their sarcasm on the auspicious day, S Bhardwaj, a Twitter user, said. Over 3,800 Twitter users had liked
A Delhi court on Saturday sent AAP MLA Amanatullah Khan to four-day custody of the Anti-Corruption Branch in a case related to alleged irregularities in the Delhi Waqf Board recruitment. Special Judge Vikas Dhull passed the order on a plea moved by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB), which said it needed to interrogate Khan for a thorough investigation. In its plea seeking Khan's 14-day custody, the agency claimed that five of Khan's relatives were appointed in the board, while 22 were from Okhla, which he represents. A person whose income is Rs 4.32 lakh is receiving cash worth Rs 4 crore..., the prosecution told the court. It also added that an ACB official was manhandled and slapped during the searches conducted on Friday. The entire team was manhandled and fire arms were recovered, it said. The ACB had on Friday arrested Khan after conducting raids at his premises. They said during the searches, the ACB team was allegedly attacked by Khan's relatives and others known to the Ok
