Be tough with Maoists, but also look at needs of locals: HM Shah to CRPF

Originally a training centre of the CPI (Maoists) deep inside a jungle in Bijapur district, Gundam has turned into a formidable camp of the CRPF, serving as a nerve centre of anti-Naxal operations. A CRPF camp was set up in February in the hamlet after Naxals were driven out from this old den of theirs after months of struggle. While visiting the camp, Union Home Minister Amit Shah interacted with the security personnel, had lunch with them. He also told them that they would have to be tough with the Maoists, but must consider the needs of the local population. "If you face Naxals, confront them with toughest action but make sure that your action does not lead to any civilian getting annoyed," he said. Shah said that any local who comes to any camp must be offered help like medical care, or free food, or education for their children. "You have to make a friendship with the locals, win the trust and heart," he told the jawans. Security forces have opened 289 new camps in the ...

Amit Shah meets surrendered Naxals, says, 'I am the happiest person today'

"I am the happiest person today, more than you or your family, as our painstaking efforts to convince you to surrender and join the mainstream has bore fruit," Union Home Minister Amit Shah told a group of former Naxals on Sunday. The event here, attended by about 30 surrendered Naxals and insurgents belonging to six states -- Chhattisgarh, Odisha, Maharashtra, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh and Assam -- may be small but is very significant, Shah said. "I am getting immense satisfaction that the country's youngsters are responding to our appeal, realising the futility of violence and surrendering," he said. Shah said when Prime Minister Narendra Modi gave him responsibility of the home ministry in 2019, he thought that those who were involved in armed movements should be given a chance to lay down their arms, surrender and live a peaceful life. "Following our initiatives, 20 peace accords were signed in the northeast and 9,000 militants surrendered," he said. The Centre has formulated

Wayanad disaster: Vijayan refutes HM's claim of delay in submitting report

Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan on Monday strongly criticised the reported claim by Union Home Minister Amit Shah that the state delayed submitting a detailed report on the Wayanad landslide disaster, which allegedly caused the central government to withhold announcing a special financial aid package. Vijayan called the claim baseless and unfair to the affected people. The CM said this is not the first time the union home minister has attempted to mislead Parliament and the public regarding the landslide that had struck in areas like Mundakkai, Chooralmala, Attamala, Punchirimattam of Wayanad on July 30. "Previously, the union home minister falsely cited non-existent weather reports to mislead Parliament, alleging that Kerala had been given specific warnings about landslides but failed to act. This claim was promptly disproven with evidence, and the recent statement in Parliament appears to be a repetition of that earlier attempt," he told a press conference here. Vijayan sa

Law and order 'worrisome' in Delhi, we need to raise our voices: Kejriwal

AAP supremo Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday lashed at the BJP-led Centre over "worrisome" law and order in the national capital and asserted the situation would have been different if his party government exercised control over Delhi Police. Addressing a 'padyatra' ahead of the upcoming Assembly polls in Karol Bagh, Kejriwal said he start an agitation with the public to force the Centre to ensure their safety in the city. "Delhi Police is not in our control, otherwise, the situation in Delhi would not have been this bad. Just as I fixed schools, hospitals, and electricity, I would have fixed law and order too," he asserted. "Now we need to raise our voices. All of us together must raise our voices. I will unite all of Delhi, and we will demand from these BJP leaders to provide security to Delhi," he said. India to develop anti-drone unit for border security: Union HM Amit Shah

Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Sunday said India will soon create a comprehensive anti-drone unit to secure its borders as the "menace" of unmanned aerial vehicles is going to get serious in the coming days. Addressing BSF troops at the 60th Raising Day event of the force here at its training camp, about 300 km from the India-Pakistan border, Shah said the initial results of a "laser equipped anti-drone gun-mounted" mechanism have been encouraging. This has led to an increase in drone neutralisation and detection cases, up from 3 per cent to 55 per cent, along the India-Pakistan border in Punjab, he said. "The drone menace is going to get more serious in the coming days... We are tackling this issue with a 'whole of government' approach with the defence and research organisations and the DRDO joining hands. "We are going to create a comprehensive anti-drone unit for the country in the coming time," Shah said. According to official data, more than 260 drones have been downed or .
