SSEL aims to make new plant operational in Jul-Sep qtr, says CMD Reddy

Transformers maker Shirdi Sai Electricals Ltd (SSEL) looks to start operations at its new Rs 300 crore unit in Andhra Pradesh by the September quarter, its CMD N Viseswar Reddy said. SSEL is setting up a facility to manufacture conductors in the YSR District of Andhra Pradesh at an investment cost of Rs 300 crore, Reddy told PTI. The plant having an annual capacity of 300 tonnes is being set up over 8 acres, he said, adding that the plan is to make the plant operational by the July-September period of 2024-25. Conductors are a key element of a transmission line project. The plant is being set up in two phases. The trial production will begin by the end of this month, while the peak capacity of phase 1 (200 tonnes) will be achieved in the first quarter of the next fiscal year. Reddy further said SSEL is also into transmission EPC projects and around 50 per cent of the conductors' production will be consumed by the company's transmission business. The Andhra Pradesh government on Monday requested the Supreme Court to cancel the bail granted to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the skill development corporation scam, claiming his family members have made statements to "intimidate" public servants to hamper the probe. The state government told a bench of justices Bela M Trivedi and Pankaj Mithal that Naidu's family members have made statements publicly that they would take action against the officers when they come to power. The apex court was hearing the state government's plea against an Andhra Pradesh High Court order dated November 20, 2023 granting regular bail to Naidu in the case. "We have filed an application for filing of additional documents. Statements have been made by the family members of the accused (Naidu)... Cong activists arrested in AP for protest against teacher recruitment issue

Around 40 Congress party activists in Vijayawada were arrested on Thursday for staging a road roko and raising slogans here as part of a planned protest walk to the Secretariat, against the recent District Selection Committee (DSC) notification to recruit teachers. TDP supremo N Chandrababu Naidu has written to Andhra Pradesh Director General of Police K V Rajendranath Reddy, imploring him to immediately arrest those who allegedly attacked a few journalists and a newspaper office recently. Andhra CM disburses Rs 78 cr aid under YSR Kalyanamasthu, other schemes

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Y S Jagan Mohan Reddy on Tuesday disbursed financial assistance of Rs 78 crore under 'YSR Kalyanamasthu' and 'YSR Shaadi Tohfa' schemes to meet the marriage expenses of those belonging to SC, ST, BC, minority and other communities. The Chief Minister said 10,132 couples who got married in the October-December quarter of 2023 will benefit from this scheme. YSR Kalyanamasthu and YSR Shaadi Tohfa schemes encourage children's education as the bride and bridegroom have to complete class 10 to avail them, said Reddy, addressing officials virtually from his camp office. Andhra Pradesh CM meets PM Modi, seeks special category status for state

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister Jagan Mohan Reddy on Friday met Prime Minister Narendra Modi here and sought special category status for the state, party sources said. The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) also tweeted about the meeting between Jagan and Modi. Reddy, who swept the 2019 state polls riding on the issue of special category status, has held several meetings with the prime minister and Union Home Minister Amit Shah over the issue in the past. SC dismisses AP govt's plea against anticipatory bail to TDP chief Naidu

The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed a plea of the Andhra Pradesh government challenging the anticipatory bail granted to TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Amaravati Inner Ring Road scam case. A bench of Justices Sanjiv Khana and Dipankar Datta dismissed the plea of the state government in which it has challenged the high court order of January 10 giving relief to Naidu. The bench noted that an appeal in the case arising from the same FIR involving other accused, was already dismissed by the court last year. It said in view of the earlier order passed by this court, the bench is not inclined to entertain the appeal of the state government. The Inner Ring Road scam case pertains to manipulating the master plan of Amaravati capital city, alignment of Inner Ring Road and the seed capital to allegedly offer undue enrichment to several companies during Naidu's tenure as chief minister.

The Andhra Pradesh government on Friday kicked off its comprehensive caste census to enumerate all communities in the state. Information and Public Relations (I & PR) Minister C Srinivasa Venugopala Krishna said the census is scheduled for 10 days from January 19. "The comprehensive caste census is scheduled for 10 days in one phase and if needed, it will be extended by four or five days," Krishna told PTI. The Minister noted that volunteers will visit each and every home to collect the caste details, which will be relayed to the village secretariat system. Andhra Pradesh becomes the second state after Bihar to take up the caste census. Krishna said officials in the village secretariat system across the state will verify the accuracy of information collected by the volunteers and correct it, if necessary, before making the final record.
