The Congress on Friday appointed 29 vice presidents and 64 general secretaries in its Andhra Pradesh unit. It also appointed new district presidents in Andhra Pradesh to strengthen the organisation at the grassroots level in the state which goes to polls next year. "The Congress president has approved the proposal for the appointment of state office bearers and presidents of various district and city Congress committees in the Andhra Pradesh Congress Committee, with immediate effect," an official communication from the party said. The new vice presidents who have been appointed include Sripathi Prakasham, N Surya Nayak, B Satyawati, Meesala Subbanna, Korivi Vinay Kumar, Dhanekula Murali, V Gurunatham, K Prabhakar, K Ramadevi and Kota Sathyanarayana, among others. 4 Andhra Pradesh women stranded in Israel are safe: APNRT society

The Andhra Pradesh Non-Resident Telugu Society (APNRTS), a government entity, said it was in touch with four woman migrants from the state, who are currently stranded in war-torn Israel. APNRTS chief executive P. Hemalatha Rani said they are currently in a safe place in Kiryat Onu in the country, which is waging a war against Palestinian armed group Hamas. Union Cabinet approves terms of reference of Krishna water dsipute

The Cabinet has approved the terms of reference of the Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal that will govern the division of the river water between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. Addressing the media after a Cabinet meeting, Union minister Anurag Thakur said the tribunal will allocate water on a project-wise basis for projects in both states that are intended for developmental or future purposes. "KWDT (Krishna Water Disputes Tribunal) will provide new terms of reference under which the tribunal will divide the water of the Krishna River among both states, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, in the future. It will allocate water on a project-wise basis for the proposed projects in both states that are intended for developmental or future purposes," Thakur said.

AP Skill Development scam: CID interrogates Naidu for second day in prison

A team of Andhra Pradesh Police CID officials are interrogating TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the Skill Development Corporation scam case for the second day at the Rajamahendravaram central prison here on Sunday. The ACB Court had on Friday granted the CID two days' custody of the 73-year old TDP chief for further interrogation in the case. The questioning is allowed from 9.30 AM to 5 PM on both days (September 23 and 24). M R Ravi Kiran, DIG (Prisons) told PTI that Naidu has been handed over to the CID officials for interrogation as stipulated by the court. The two-day police custody and extension of judicial remand granted by the court will expire today. Andhra court extends remand of ex-CM Naidu till Sept 24 in corruption case

A court here on Friday extended the judicial remand of TDP chief N Chandrababu Naidu in the case pertaining to AP Skill Development Corporation scam till September 24. Additional Advocate General Ponnavolu Sudhakar Reddy told PTI that the special court for Anti-Corruption Bureau here extended the former Chief Minister's remand by two days. Meanwhile, the High Court has scheduled the hearing on the FIR quash petition filed by Naidu at 1:30 pm today. Chandrababu Naidu was arrested on September 9, for allegedly misappropriating funds from the Skill Development Corporation, leading to an alleged loss of over Rs 300 crore to the state exchequer. AP assembly adjourned amid protests by TDP MLAs over Naidu's arrest

HC reserves orders on Naidu's plea seeking quashing of FIR in scam case

The Andhra Pradesh High Court on Tuesday reserved orders on a petition filed by former Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu seeking quashing of an FIR filed against him by the police in the Skill Development Corporation scam case. The court heard the arguments from the legal counsels of Naidu and the AP Crime Investigation Department. Senior counsels Harish Salve and Siddarth Luthra representing Naidu argued that the CID did not obtain prior permission from the Governor as it is a mandatory requirement for police to seek prior approval for conducting any inquiry or investigation into any offence alleged to have been committed by a public servant. Mukul Rohatgi, on behalf of the CID, argued that Section 17(A) of CrPC is not applicable to the TDP supremo and informed the court that an intensive investigation is required in the case further.
