Swearing-in ceremony of new govt on Dec 13: MP CM-designate Mohan Yadav

Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister-designate Mohan Yadav on Monday said the swearing-in ceremony of the new government will take place on December 13. Yadav was addressing reporters in the evening after he was chosen as the leader of the BJP's legislature party. Yadav had met Governor Mangubhai Patel and staked claim to form the next government after he was declared as the BJP legislature party leader. He was accompanied by outgoing chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan, state party chief VD Sharma, and the three Central observers to the Raj Bhavan, a BJP spokesperson said. The governor invited Yadav to form a government in the state and handed over a letter pertaining to his appointment as the next chief minister. The BJP retained power in MP in the November 17 assembly polls by winning 163 seats in the 230-member assembly, while the Congress finished a distant second with 66.

Chhattisgarh BJP MLAs to meet on Sunday, suspense over CM could end

A key meeting of the BJP's newly-elected 54 MLAs in Chhattisgarh to pick the legislative party leader will be held here on Sunday which is likely to end the suspense over who will be the next chief minister. The BJP's legislative party meeting will take place on Sunday. The party's three observers Union ministers Arjun Munda and Sarbananda Sonowal, and party general secretary Dushyant Kumar Gautam will be present, the party's state unit president Arun Sao told reporters on Saturday. PM Modi cites poll data to assert BJP most preferred party for governance

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Thursday cited poll data to assert that the BJP has become people's most preferred for governance as its record of winning state elections while in power is much better than the Congress. Speaking at the BJP Parliamentary Party meeting, he credited "team spirit" for the party's big win in the recent assembly polls, noting that besides winning in three states it has also grown in strength in Telangana and Mizoram. Quoting Modi, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Pralhad Joshi told reporters that the Congress faced assembly polls 40 times while in power for one term in those states and could win only seven of them, having a dismal success rate of 18 per cent. The corresponding figures for the BJP is 22 out of 39 times, a success rate of 56 per cent, Modi noted. Regional parties have fared better than the Congress but not the BJP as they won 18 of 36 times when in power, notching up a success rate of 50 per cent. It shows the BJP is the most preferred part
