More than 40 new product launches expected at upcoming auto expo, says govt

More than 40 new product launches are expected at the upcoming Auto Expo which will be held under the umbrella of Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025 from January 17-22, a government official said on Tuesday. With visas continuing to be an issue, large scale participation of Chinese companies are unlikely although some of them are participating at the expo, Joint Secretary at Ministry of Commerce and Industry Vimal Anand said here at the sidelines of curtain raiser of 'Bharat Battery Show' which will also be a part of the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025. "Last year the mobility show was only held at Bharat Mandapam, but this year, we have multiplied it by three times and we are going to organise it at not only Bharat Mandapam, but also at Yashobhoomi (India International Convention Centre, Dwarka) and India Expo Centre & Mart, Greater Noida," he said. Automotive leasing in India to account for 8% of sales in 5-8 yrs: ORIX

Mobility solutions and financial services provider ORIX Corporation India Ltd expects automobile leasing market in India to account for 7-8 per cent of the overall vehicle sales in the next 5-7 years, up from about 2 per cent currently with more younger people joining the workforce, its Managing Director and CEO Vivek Wadhera. With good traction in its business, the company expects 30-35 per cent higher profit this fiscal year compared to the last year, Wadhera told PTI in an interaction. "If you compare the Indian market to the western market, the overall leasing market in India is 1-2 per cent of the total number of automobiles sold," he said when asked how the automobile leasing market has been developing in the country. In 2024, passenger vehicle sales in India stood at 43 lakh units as per industry estimates. The Department of Consumer Affairs (DoCA) held a meeting with automobile associations and companies on Saturday to encourage their participation in the newly launched Right to Repair Portal India, aimed at empowering consumers with easier access to product repair information. The meeting, chaired by DoCA Secretary Nidhi Khare, focused on addressing consumer concerns about restricted access to repair tools, high costs, and service delays in the automotive sector, an official statement said. French automaker Citroen expects India to become its second biggest market after home country in the next five years, for which it will accelerate network expansion besides introducing new products, company global CEO Thierry Koskas said on Thursday. The company will be incorporating learnings from the past few years of its presence in India to attract more consumers besides looking to rope in a brand ambassador to push the brand's visibility in India. Hero MotoCorp receives Rs 605 crore tax demand notice from I-T dept

The country's largest two-wheeler maker Hero MotoCorp on Thursday said it has received demand notices from the Income Tax department for around Rs 605 crore, including interest, for six assessment years. On April 3, 2024, the company received assessment orders/ demand notices dated March 30, 2024, pertaining to six assessment years from the Income Tax department, the company said in a regulatory filing. The two-wheeler major is examining the orders/ notices received and shall take appropriate steps, including the filing of appeals and rectification applications, it added. The notice pertains to six assessment years, amounting to a tax demand of Rs 308.65 crore and interest thereon of Rs 296.22 crore, Hero MotoCorp said. This is on account of certain disallowances, for the assessment years 2013-14 to 2017-18 and 2019-20, it added. Maruti Suzuki's mcap breaches Rs 4 trillion mark in intra-day trade

Maruti Suzuki India's market valuation went past the Rs 4 lakh crore mark in intra-day trade on Wednesday, helped by a rally in the stock which reached a new peak. Shares of the company climbed 2.40 per cent to settle at Rs 12,550 apiece on the BSE. During the day, it jumped 3.82 per cent to reach a record high of Rs 12,724.95. On the NSE, the automaker's stock advanced 2.52 per cent to Rs 12,560 per share. During the day, the company's market valuation jumped to Rs 4,00,075.70 crore mark. At the close of trade, the company's market capitalisation (mcap) remained at Rs 3,94,575.23 crore. In the broader equity market, the 30-share BSE Sensex jumped 526.01 points or 0.73 per cent to settle at 72,996.31. The NSE Nifty went up by 118.95 points or 0.54 per cent to 22,123.65. Maruti Suzuki's total sales rise 15% to 197,471 units in February

Maruti Suzuki India on Friday said it has reported a 15 per cent year-on-year increase in total wholesales at 1,97,471 units in February. The company had dispatched a total of 1,72,321 units in the same month last year, Maruti Suzuki India Ltd (MSIL) said in a statement. The total domestic passenger vehicle sales grew 9 per cent at 1,60,271 units as against 147,467 units in the month a year ago, it added. Sales of mini segment cars, comprising Alto and S-Presso, declined to 14,782 units as against 21,875 units in February 2023. Sales of compact cars, including Baleno, Celerio, Dzire, Ignis, Swift, Tour S, and WagonR, also declined by 10 per cent to 71,627 units as compared to 79,898 units in the year-ago month. Utility vehicles, including Brezza, Ertiga, Grand Vitara, and XL6, recorded sales of 61,234 units last month, growing 82 per cent over 33,550 units in the month a year ago, the company said. MSIL said its exports last month stood at 28,927 units as compared to 17,207 units
