Airspace over Andaman closed for 3 hours for high altitude weapon test

The airspace over Andaman and Nicobar Islands was closed for three hours from 7 am on Friday for high altitude weapon test by the tri-services command, an official said. A senior Andaman and Nicobar Command official said, "Like today, the airspace over and around Andaman and Nicobar Islands will be closed tomorrow for three hours (7 am to 10 am). We have already issued Notice to Airmen (NOTAM) on May 16 and instructed that no civilian aircraft will be allowed to fly over Andaman on May 23 and May 24." India has assumed the chairmanship of the Bay of Bengal Inter-Governmental Organisation at the 13th Governing Council Meeting in Male, Maldives.India assumed the chairmanship in the presence of senior government representatives from Sri Lanka, Maldives and Bangladesh, the Ministry of Fisheries, Animal Husbandry and Dairying said in a press release.The event was part of the high-level conference 'Policy Guidance for Mainstreaming Ecosystem Approach to Fisheries Management (EAFM) in Small-Scale Fisheries', hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries & Ocean Resources of the Maldives government, in collaboration with the Bay of Bengal Programme Inter-Governmental Organisation (BOBP-IGO), that has been successfully convened from February 20 to 22, 2025, in Lankanfinolhu, Maldives.As per the Ministry, the Indian delegation was led by Abhilaksh Likhi, Secretary, Department of Fisheries. Cyclonic system over Bay of Bengal to bring heavy rain to Andhra: IMD

The India Meteorological Department on Wednesday forecast "heavy rainfall" in parts of Andhra Pradesh over three days, from December 18 to 20, due to a low-pressure area over the Bay of Bengal. IMD predicted "heavy rain" on Wednesday at isolated places in North Coastal Andhra Pradesh (NCAP), Yanam, South Coastal Andhra Pradesh (SCAP), and Rayalaseema. "Thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are at isolated places over NCAP and Yanam, SCAP, and Rayalaseema," stated IMD in a release. For Thursday, the department forecast "heavy to very heavy rain" in parts of NCAP and Yanam and "heavy rain at isolated places" in SCAP and Rayalaseema. The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal is "very likely" to cross the coast as a depression on November 30 between Tamil Nadu and Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department said on Friday. The well-marked low pressure area over southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal moved west to northwestwards and intensified into a depression on Tuesday evening, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) said. The weather system lay over southwest Bay of Bengal at 5:30 pm today, about 490 km east to southeast of Chennai and 590 km southeast of Nellore, it noted. With the flood situation in parts of South Bengal still worrisome, the Met office on Friday said it was closely monitoring the potential formation of a low-pressure area over northwest Bay of Bengal around September 23. A cyclonic circulation over North Andaman Sea is expected to develop into a low-pressure area in northwest Bay of Bengal around the same date, weather officials said, adding that they are keeping a close watch on the movement of the weather system. A depression over the Bay of Bengal is likely to intensify into a deep depression by Monday, bringing heavy rain in several districts in the southern part of West Bengal till September 12, the Met office said. The weather system is likely to cross Odisha and West Bengal coasts between Puri and Digha respectively by Monday night, it said on Sunday. Heavy rainfall is likely in the south Bengal districts of Paschim Medinipur, Jhargram, Bankura, Purulia, Paschim Bardhaman, South 24 Parganas, Hooghly, Nadia, Murshidabad and Birbhum districts till September 12.
