Brazil expresses concern over border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana

Brazil's Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Friday it was concerned about a border dispute between Venezuela and Guyana that intensified this week following Britain's decision to send a warship to Guyana's shores. Brazil's foreign ministry urged the South American neighbours to return to dialogue and said third countries should avoid "military activities" that support either side. Brazil's statement calls on both countries to stay true to the Argyle Declaration, an agreement signed by Guyana and Venezuela two weeks ago in which their leaders said they would solve the border dispute through nonviolent means. Defence Minister Rajnath Singh on Saturday said if someone tries to carry out any nefarious act, India can eliminate them on this side of the border, and if necessary, on the other side as well. Singh was addressing a rally while campaigning for BJP candidate Lal Singh Arya at Khaneta village under the Gohad assembly seat in Bhind district of poll-bound Madhya Pradesh. BSF personnel fires warning shots along international border in Jammu

Border Security Force (BSF) personnel fired a couple of warning shots after a group of people escorted by Pakistan Rangers came close to the international border here on Saturday, official sources said. Repeated calls and messages to the Border Security Force (BSF) for an official comment on the incident in the Arnia area of R S Pura sector went unanswered. According to the sources, a group of more than 20 people with a herd of bovine animals and accompanied by three Pakistan Rangers personnel entered the Indian territory around noon following which a BSF jawan fired two warning shots. There was no retaliation from the other side, the sources said, adding that the people returned to the Pakistani side. Two BSF personnel were injured on October 17 when Pakistani troops resorted to unprovoked firing on an Indian post in Arnia. The BSF lodged a strong protest with the Pakistan Rangers at a commandant-level flag meeting on Thursday.

Arunachal villagers unwilling to go to Assam as dispute solving measure

A village in Arunachal Pradesh's Lower Siang district has become a part of Assam in a proposal to resolve the decades-long boundary dispute between the two northeastern neighbours, and the villagers are not happy. The people of Durpai village under Kangku circle want to stay in Arunachal Pradesh and have threatened to launch an agitation if their demand is not met soon. The villagers under the aegis of Durpai Village Development Committee (DVDC) demanded immediate rectification of the looping system and keeping Durpai where it is now. Though the proposals have not yet been made public, the villagers said they have come to know about it from some officials. China releases new edition of standard map showing its territorial claims

China on Monday officially released the 2023 edition of its standard map incorporating the disputed areas including its claims over Arunachal Pradesh, Aksai Chin region, Taiwan and the disputed South China Sea. India has repeatedly said that the state of Arunachal Pradesh has "always been" and will "always be" an integral part of the country. The 2023 edition of China's standard map was officially released on Monday and launched on the website of the standard map service hosted by the Ministry of Natural Resources, state-run Global Times said in a post on X, formerly Twitter.
