China and Argentina signed a USD 9 billion currency swap deal to boost the crisis-stricken South American country's foreign currency reserves, its central bank announced Sunday. Struggling to recover after a currency crisis earlier this year, Latin America's third largest economy sought the help of the International Monetary Fund -- which approved a USD 56 billion loan package. Now, this latest agreement will "contribute to greater financial stability and also facilitate trade" between China and Argentina, according to the bank's statement. A currency swap sees two parties agree to exchange a certain amount of foreign currency at a pre-determined rate, protecting against fluctuations. Argentina's central bank will be able to draw on these funds in an emergency. Next week, the Indian Railways's research and development wing will begin efforts to increase the speed of trains on Kalka-Shimla narrow gauge route from the present 25kmph to 35kmph, officials said. This is the first time the railways is trying to bump up the speed on the route, which will reduce the journey time between the two stations by at least an hour. "An RDSO (Research Development and Standard Organisation) team will come here for trial next week and give us their suggestions. Based on their inputs, we will decide whether to increase the speed on the route," said D C Sharma, Divisional Railway Manager, Ambala. At present, trains cover the 95.5-km distance in 5.30 hours, by road the journey takes 4.30 hours. Many tourists prefer to take the road because of the journey time, officials said. When this Rs 100-crore indigenously designed train is made operational, it will become the country's fastest train. "Train 18 breached the 180 kmph speed limit in the Kota-Sawai Madhopur section. The major trials are now over, with just some more remaining. Based on the reports, fine tuning would be done if needed. As of now no major technical problem has cropped up," S Mani, General Manager of Integral Coach Factory (ICF) that has manufactured the train, said. "We expect Train 18 to commence its commercial run from January 2019. Normally the trials take three months. But now it is happening faster than expected," Mani added. The Gujarat police recruitment board on Sunday cancelled a written exam for the recruitment of police constables after the paper leak.Over 8.76 lakh candidates were scheduled to appear for the exam for 9,713 posts at 2,440 examination centres across the state.Lok Rakshak Recruitment Board (LRRB) Chairman and Additional Director General of Police (DGP) Vikas Sahay informed that the examination was called off after it came to light that the paper had got leaked.Sahay further said that the whole matter would be investigated and action will be taken against the people involved.
