GST collection crosses Rs 1 lakh cr in Oct

GST collections in October crossed the Rs 1 lakh crore mark, after a gap of 5 months, on the back of festive demand, anti-evasion measures. The Finance Ministry Thursday said 67.45 lakh businesses filed goods and services tax (GST) returns in October and deposited Rs 1,00,710 crore as taxes. "GST collections for October 2018 have crossed Rs 1 lakh crore. The success of GST is lower rates, lesser evasion, higher compliance, only one tax and negligible interference by taxation authorities," Finance Minister Arun Jaitley tweeted. The states which achieved "extra-ordinary growth" in total taxes collected include Kerala (44 per cent), Jharkhand (20 per cent), Rajasthan (14 per cent), Uttarakhand (13 per cent) and Maharashtra (11 per cent), an official statement said. VECV sales up 14 pc in October

VE Commercial Vehicles, a joint venture between Volvo Group and Eicher Motors, Thursday reported 14.4 per cent rise in sales in October at 5,980 units. The company had posted sales of 5,228 units in October 2017, VE Commercial Vehicles (VCEV) said in a statement. Volvo Trucks recorded sales of 154 units in October as compared to 62 units in the year ago period.

Toyota domestic sales up 2 pc at 12,606 units in October

Toyota Kirloskar Motor (TKM) Thursday reported a 2 per cent increase in domestic sales at 12,606 units in October. The company had sold 12,403 units in the same month last year in the domestic market, TKM said in a statement. It exported 639 units of the Etios series last month, compared to 1,597 units in the same period a year ago. "We are happy that we have been able to sustain good customers demand despite the dampening effect on consumer sentiment owing to hike in fuel prices, higher interest rates, increase in insurance premium," TKM Deputy Managing Director N Raja said. Innova Crysta has witnessed a growth of 11 per cent in April to October period this year as compared to the same period in 2017, he added. The company had sold a total of 92,152 units during the April-October period, a growth of 15 per cent from 80,360 units in same period of previous year. Godrej Properties Q2 net profit rises to Rs 20.57 cr

Realty firm Godrej Properties Thursday reported a sharp jump in consolidated net profit at Rs 20.57 crore for the second quarter of this fiscal. Its net profit stood at Rs 0.21 crore in the year-ago period, the company said in a regulatory filing. Total income increased to Rs 487.07 crore during July-September period of this fiscal as against Rs 349 crore in the corresponding period of the previous year. Godrej Properties has restated its previous year's figures based on new accounting standard. "The current environment gives us an outstanding opportunity to disproportionately scale our business development portfolio. We expect the pace of project additions to accelerate in second half of FY19. Burdy launches cab aggregation services in Delhi-NCR

Tech start-up Burdy Thursday said it will offer cab aggregation services in Delhi-NCR, competing head-on with giants like Ola and Uber in the burgeoning segment. According to co-founder and CEO Rishabh Srivastava, the bootstrapped firm is a "tech company" and will start with cab aggregation and roll out other offerings like repair services as well in the coming months. "We want to bring in transparency in the way cabs services are offered today. We will not charge any commission to the drivers, we will have a monthly licensing fee (of Rs 2,000). There will be no surge pricing for riders and rides will be affordable at Rs 6 km onwards," he said. The company, which will start with Delhi-NCR and expand to other cities in the coming month, has already onboarded 12,000 drivers on its platform, he added. India biggest commitment for AIIB: official

India is the biggest commitment country for the Asian Infrastructure Investment Bank (AIIB) which is interested in funding rural roads and transmission lines projects in the country, a top official of the Beijing-based multilateral development bank has said. Yee Ean Pang, AIIB's Director General for Investment Operations Department, also underlined the multi-lateral bank's focus in India on development of rural roads, transmission lines and green projects among others. "India is the largest country that we are supporting," Pang told PTI at the ongoing Singapore International Energy Week 2018. Describing Amaravati as a unique greenfield development, Pang said the AIIB is working with the Andhra Pradesh government on basic infrastructure and would then move on with projects such as sanitation.
