For the first time, the constable recruitment examination in the Central Armed Police Forces such as the CRPF, BSF and CISF will be conducted in 13 regional languages apart from Hindi and English. The examination are being conducted from February 10-March 7 and around 48 lakh candidates are appearing in 128 cities across the country, according to an official statement. Under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the guidance of Union Home Minister Amit Shah, the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) had decided to conduct the constable (general duty) examination for recruitment in CAPFs in 13 regional languages in addition to Hindi and English from January 1, 2024. More than 46,000 personnel from the five CAPFs and the Assam Rifles took early retirement during the past five years, the government informed Parliament on Wednesday. The maximum -- at more than 21,000 men and women -- of the personnel who took early retirement were from the Border Security Force (BSF), which guards the Pakistan and Bangladesh borders. Minister of State for Home Affairs Nityanand Rai informed the Rajya Sabha in a written reply that voluntary retirement cases in these forces "vary from year to year and no trend in this regard has been observed". According to the data provided by the minister, 46,930 personnel from the five Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and the Assam Rifles took up the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS) between 2019 and 2023, with the maximum being from the BSF at 21,860. As many as 11,000 vehicles belonging to the Central Armed Police Forces such as the BSF, CRPF and CISF will be scrapped as part of a Central government policy to dispose of all automobiles older than 15 years, officials said. The Ministry of Home Affairs has also requested all state governments and Union Territory administrations to take necessary steps for scrapping worn-out operational vehicles of state police organisations and to replace them with better technology and fuel-efficient vehicles. The MHA has taken steps to ensure that vehicles that are older than 15 years are scrapped as per the 'Vehicle Scrapping Policy' of the Government of India, officials said on Monday. In this connection, around 11,000 vehicles of the CAPFs have been identified that are older than 15 years and these vehicles shall be scrapped in a phased manner, they said. A total of 84,866 posts are lying vacant in six Central Armed Police Forces like the CRPF and BSF against the total sanctioned strength of 10,05,520, the Rajya Sabha was informed on Wednesday. Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said recruitment of 31,785 personnel in the CAPFs has been done in the past five months. The vacancies in the CAPFs arise on account of retirements, resignation, promotion, death, new raising of battalion, creation of new posts etc, he said. As on January 1, 2023, there were 29,283 vacancies in the CRPF, 19,987 in BSF, 19,475 vacancies in the CISF, 8,273 in SSB, 4,142 in ITBP and 3,706 in the Assam Rifles, he said replying to a written question. Rai said as on January 1, 2023, a total of 247 posts of doctors and 2,354 posts of nurses and other medical professionals were lying vacant in the Central Armed Police Forces.
The Central Industrial Security Force has earned Rs 325.67 crore for providing security services to private sector undertakings during the last three years, Union Minister of State for Home Nityanand Rai said on Wednesday. Rai said in Rajya Sabha that according to the CISF Act, 1968, the force is deployed for security duties of private industrial undertakings on request on the basis of threat assessment. Revenue earned and credited to the Consolidated Fund of India on account of deployment of the CISF on security services for private sector undertakings during last three years is: Rs 1,15,21,69,545 in 2021-22, Rs 1,11,54,96,912 in 2020-21, Rs 98,90,60,330 in 2019-21, he said replying to a written question. The minister said the CISF also provides technical consultancy service to industrial establishments and the revenue earned and credited to the consolidated fund of India by way of consultancy fee from private sector during last three years is Rs 37,50,000.
The BSF on Sunday shot down a drone that had allegedly entered Indian territory from across the border in the Amritsar sector, officials said. Border Security Force (BSF) troops deployed along the International Border with Pakistan intercepted and brought down the drone, they said. BSF troops deployed at the border heard the buzzing noise of a suspected drone entering from Pakistan in the area near Shahjada village in Amritsar (Rural) district at 2.11 am, a BSF official said in a statement issued here. The troops intercepted the drone as per the drill laid down and fired at it, he said. The area was cordoned off and police and other agencies concerned were informed. During the search, the troops recovered the partially damaged drone. The black, DJI Matrice (Made in China) drone was lying near Dhussi Bundh close to Shahjada village, the statement added.

A parliamentary committee has expressed its disappointment over the very minuscule number of women being recruited in Central Armed Police Forces like the CRPF and BSF and sought action to create a conducive environment at border outposts so that women are motivated to join security forces. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Home Affairs, headed by BJP's Rajya Sabha member Brijlal, noted that despite efforts of the home ministry to encourage the recruitment of women in the Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Assam Rifles, the strength of women personnel is "abysmally low". Nearly two lakh people were recruited in six Central Armed Police Forces like the BSF and the CRPF in the last five years as part of the Narendra Modi government's efforts to provide jobs to unemployed youths, officials said. However, as of July-end this year, there are still over 84,000 vacancies in these forces the Border Security Force (BSF), the Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), the Indo Tibetan Border Police (ITBP), the Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB) and the Assam Rifles (AR). Steps have been taken to fill them too. According to Union Home Ministry data, the highest number of 1,13,208 youths were recruited in the CRPF in the last five years (2017-2021), 29,243 were recruited in the SSB and 17,482 were hired by the BSF.
