Measures undertaken to secure nuclear plant systems from cyber-attack: MoS

Security arrangements are in place to secure India's nuclear power plant systems from cyber-attack, said Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Jitendra Singh on Thursday.In a written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha, Singh said, these security measures include authorization, authentication & access control mechanisms, strict configuration control and surveillance.The Union Minister said that the nuclear power plant systems are isolated from the internet and are not accessible from the administrative network."Several measures have been taken to strengthen Information Security in administrative networks in nuclear power plants like, hardening of internet and administrative intranet connectivity, restriction on removable media, blocking of websites and IPs," he said.On the issue of the September 2019 cyber-attack on the Kudankulam Nuclear Power Plant, Singh had said that investigations have been carried out by the Computer & Information Security Advisory ...

J-K to create pool of cyber security analysts to tackle cyber terrorism

Jammu and Kashmir is planning to create a pool of cyber security analysts under the recently launched Cyber Security Policy (CSP) to combat cyber terrorism and cyber attacks. The CSP also talks about setting up computer energy response team (CERT), a nodal agency which will ensure safer and stronger internet by responding to major incidents, analysing threats and exchanging critical cyber security information with trusted partners. According to the official document, the government is also mulling over establishing a think tank for policy and decision inputs, an information security management system to manage sensitive data and a Centre of Excellence to combat modern-day security threats. The AIIMS, Delhi is working on devising a cyber security policy for the hospital and other wings with guidance from investigating agencies, official sources said on Thursday, even as its servers remained down for the ninth day following a ransomware attack. Recommendations have been sought from the investigating agencies, they said. Besides, a chief information security officer (CISO) is being appointed on an ad hoc basis for emergency cyber security measures to be taken at the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) here to restart the eHospital services and prevent such incidents in the future. AIIMS-Delhi server down from 6 days, hackers ask for Rs 200 cr in crypto

Hackers have allegedly demanded an estimated Rs 200 crore in cryptocurrency from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Delhi as its server remained out of order for the sixth consecutive day, official sources said on Monday. It is feared that data of around 3-4 crore patients could have been compromised due to the breach detected Wednesday morning. Patient care services in emergency, outpatient, inpatient and laboratory wings are being managed manually as the server remained down, the sources said. The India Computer Emergency Response Team (CERT-IN), Delhi Police and representatives of the Ministry of Home Affairs are investigating the ransomware attack. A case of extortion and cyber terrorism was registered by the Intelligence Fusion and Strategic Operations (IFSO) unit of the Delhi Police on November 25. Sebi plans to put in place cyber security framework for stock brokers

Sebi is planning to come out with a cyber security framework for stock brokers that will help in reducing the impact of potential risks by cyber fraud, data leaks and hacking of trading accounts, a top official said on Wednesday. The framework, aimed at protecting stock brokers as well as their clients, would include measures, tools and processes that are intended to prevent cyber-attacks and improve cyber resilience, Association of National Exchanges Members of India (ANMI) President Kamlesh Shah told PTI here. The move is part of the capital markets regulator's investors safeguard mechanism.
