No cooler for Kejriwal in jail despite Delhi's scorching heat, says Atishi

A day after Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal surrendered at the Tihar jail after completion of his interim bail in a money laundering case, the AAP leaders on Monday alleged that he was not provided cooler in his cell in prison and his weight was measured thrice in a "conspiracy". The Tihar jail authorities refuted the AAP leaders' claim, saying the chief minister's weight was taken with one machine only and added that he was not provided cooler because the facility is provided after the court's order. "The weight of Kejriwal is 63.5 kilogram, which was measured only once when he surrendered on Sunday. There was no problem with the weighing machine. His other vitals, including blood pressure and sugar, are normal," a senior Tihar jail officer told PTI. In a press conference, senior AAP leader and Delhi minister Atishi claimed that Kejriwal's weight was measured with three weighing machines during his medical examination in Tihar on Sunday. She also claimed that at a time when .

Court reserves order on cognisance of ED charge sheet against Kejriwal

A Delhi court on Tuesday reserved for June 4 its order on whether to take cognisance of a supplementary charge sheet filed by the ED against Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in the money laundering case linked to the alleged excise scam wherein it has claimed bribes were received even from Punjab businessmen to allow them to invest in liquor trade in the national capital. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) has claimed those businessmen from Punjab, also ruled by the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP), who did not pay up, were forced out of their ventures in the neighbouring state. Special Judge Kaveri Baweja reserved the order after hearing the arguments advanced by the ED, which claimed it has sufficient evidence to prosecute Kejriwal in the case. The ED has also named AAP as an accused in the charge sheet, the first political party to be booked under the Prevention of Money Laundering Act (PMLA). The federal anti-money laundering agency told the court that Kejriwal, the national convenor of AAP,

Delhi court refuses to summon Kejriwal in defamation case by BJP leader

A Delhi court on Tuesday refused to summon Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal in a criminal complaint filed by a BJP leader who accused him of defamation for claiming that AAP leaders were approached to join the saffron party in return for cash. Additional Chief Metropolitan Magistrate Tanya Bamniyal, however, summoned AAP leader Atishi, saying "prima facie" there was sufficient evidence against her in the matter. Atishi accuses Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water since May 1

Water Minister Atishi on Tuesday accused Haryana of not releasing Delhi's share of water since May 1 and said the government will be implementing a slew of measures including rationalising supply of water in the national capital. Addressing a press conference, Atishi said many areas in Delhi are grappling with water shortage and appealed to people to use water judiciously. She also warned that if people do not heed this appeal, the government may have to impose challan for excess use of water in coming days. She said that the Delhi government is constantly talking to Haryana about the issue and if it is not resolved in the next couple of days, it may approach the Supreme Court over the matter. "Haryana has stopped release of Delhi's share of water. The water level at Wazirabad was 674.5 feet on May 1. This is the average level that should be maintained. Last year in April, May, and June, the minimum level was maintained at 674.5 feet," Atishi said. Sharing data, the minister said t

As CM Kejriwal seeks bail extension, BJP calls it 'drama' to avoid jail

Senior AAP leader Atishi on Monday said Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has sought one-week extension of his interim bail as he needs to undergo tests due to his recent weight loss and rise in ketone level which could be symptoms of some kidney problem or even cancer. Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva called this move a "drama" by the chief minister to avoid going back to jail after his interim bail in a money laundering case ends on June 1. "The Supreme Court granted him bail for poll campaigning, which he did without any problem. But now he is suffering from serious diseases. If so, why is he not having those tests done now instead of being busy with campaigning in Punjab?" Sachdeva said. Atishi told PTI Videos that Kejriwal's weight dropped by 7 kg after his arrest on March 21. He has not regained the lost weight and the doctors are unable to find why his weight decreased, the Delhi minister said. "He has undergone some tests and his ketone level is very high. Won't resign because it will set precedent, give BJP free hand: Kejriwal

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal has said he won't resign because it will set a precedent and give the BJP-led Central government a free hand to target opposition chief ministers, including Mamata Banerjee and M K Stalin. And this, he said, is very dangerous for democracy. In an interview to PTI Videos on Wednesday, Kejriwal, who will have to go back to Tihar Jail after his interim bail ends on June 1, said he will approach the court to allow him to fulfil his duties as chief minister of Delhi from prison. The AAP national convener was arrested by the Enforcement Directorate on March 21 in connection with a money laundering case related to his government's liquor excise policy. The BJP has been demanding his resignation since he has been arrested by the probe agency. Kejriwal and his party have accused the BJP government of framing him, former deputy chief minister Manish Sisodia and other leaders in "fake cases". A 33-year-old man was arrested by the Delhi Police from Uttar Pradesh's Bareilly on Wednesday for allegedly scribbling graffiti at Delhi metro stations and inside train coaches targeting Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and was later granted bail by a court. A police officer said the accused, who also posted photos of the graffiti on his Instagram account, has been identified as Ankit Goel. On Monday, several photos of the graffiti targeting Kejriwal went viral on social media, eliciting a sharp condemnation from the Aam Aadmi Party. Soon after, a CCTV video also surfaced online, showing a man writing on the wall of a metro station. Goel, who is a loan manager in a government bank in Bareilly, came to Delhi, wrote the messages and returned to his city, the police officer said, adding that the accused told the police that earlier he was an AAP supporter, but he became disaffected due to the "recent developments" in the party.
