Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis on Tuesday said the state government will launch certificate courses at the Skills University to train skilled manpower in the gems and jewellery sector. Speaking at the inauguration of a gems and jewellery exhibition at the Jio World Convention Centre here, Fadnavis said the gems and jewellery sector has the potential to make India a global leader. He said that the initiative to provide certificate courses at the Maharashtra State Skills University (MSSU) will create manpower and ensure consistent growth of the industry. The Maharashtra government on Thursday signed Memorandums of Understanding entailing investment of Rs 1,08,599 crore in sectors like information technology, food processing, warehousing, data centres and logistics hubs, paving the way for creation of 47,000 direct jobs, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said. Investors and the industry sector play a crucial role in a state's economic growth, Fadnavis said while assuring that his government will meet their expectations. "We are making efforts to ensure entrepreneurs have a positive investment experience in Maharashtra," the chief minister said. The key projects in this regard include MGSA Realty investing Rs 5,000 crore in industrial warehouses, data centres and logistics hubs, which will create 10,000 jobs. The building, which was allegedly unauthorised and housed nearly 50 flats, collapsed on an adjacent vacant tenement at Vijay Nagar in Virar area of Palghar, adjoining Mumbai, at 12.05 am on Wednesday, according to officials. Amid controversy over the closure of 'kabutarkhanas' in Mumbai, the Maharashtra government has set up an expert committee to examine the impact of pigeons on human health as directed by the Bombay High Court. In response to three writ petitions, the high court had on August 13 asked the government to set up a committee to study health hazards associated with pigeons and the practice of feeding them in public places.
