Three persons died and 12 were injured in a road accident on National Highway 37 involving a mini bus and a truck in Goalpara district in lower Assam on Friday, police said. At Dhanubhanga, under Dhupdhara police station, a truck hit the mini bus from behind killing the three passengers in the bus besides injuring 12 this evening, police said. Four of the seriously wounded were sent to Gauhati Medical College Hospital, while the rest were admitted to local hospitals, police added.

A fire broke out at a footwear shop in Khidderpore in the city on Friday evening but there was no casualty. Fire brigade sources said two fire tenders put out the blaze in about 30 minutes. The fire broke out at around 7.20 pm. Fire brigade personnel cordoned off the site and prevented the blaze from spreading to nearby shops in the congested locality in south-western parts of the city. Around 150 shanties were gutted in a major fire that broke out at a village here early Friday, leaving hundreds of people, mostly daily wage earners, in temporary shelters, police said.
