Disturbed by Kerala floods, Bollywood celebs are urging their fans and followers to come together and help the victims.Stars, including Varun Dhawan, Anushka Sharma, Abhishek Bachchan, Farhan Akhtar among others, took to social media to persuade everyone to donate to the Chief Minister's fund for the aid of the flood-hit people.Kerala has been witnessing incessant rain since past few days, causing flooding and landslide in the state. Heavy rains lash Chandigarh and surrounding areas

Heavy rains lashed Chandigarh and its surrounding areas today, providing relief to the people from sultry weather conditions. Chandigarh's adjoining towns Mohali in Punjab and Panchkula in Haryana were also lashed by heavy showers. The maximum temperature at most places in Punjab and Haryana including Chandigarh had risen during the past few days. Quakes rock southern Italy, alarmed people sleeping outdoors

At least nine earthquakes have rocked southern Italy in two hours, prompting frightened residents to sleep outdoors. Italy's national seismology agency INGV says the strongest quake measured 5.1 and struck at 8:19 pm (local time) yesterday. That jolt was followed in rapid succession by eight more tremors, with the strongest measuring at 4.4. Epicenter of the quakes was Montecilfone, a small town in Campobasso province in the south-central region of Molise. Civil protection officials say a boy was slightly hurt after leaping off a balcony in fear, but no injuries are blamed directly on the quakes. Molise Governor Donato Toma says some buildings suffered cracks but no major damage occurred. The biggest jolt was felt in much of Italy's south, including in Rome and Naples.

Plane from China skids off Manila runway amid downpour

A Boeing passenger plane from China skidded off a runway while landing in a downpour at Manila's airport and its 157 passengers and eight crew members were evacuated on an emergency slide, officials said. All the passengers and crew of Xiamen Air flight MF8667 were safe and were taken to an airport terminal, where they were given blankets and food before being taken to a hotel, Philippine officials said. "We have no reports yet of injuries but the passengers were all drenched," said Eric Apolonio, a spokesman of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines. The B737 aircraft veered off the runway around midnight into a grassy area, Apolonio said. He cited an initial report that the plane appeared to have "bounced" during the landing then its lights went out. One of the plane's two engines appeared to have been damaged, another airport official said. PM to visit flood-hit Kerala

Prime Minister Narendra Modi would visit Kerala and undertake an aerial survey of the flood ravaged areas on Saturday, Union Minister K J Alphons today said. Modi was expected to reach Kochi tomorrow after attending the funeral of former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, he told reporters here. Ration supplied via chopper in HP village

Ration and other essential commodities were supplied with the help of a helicopter to a Himachal Pradesh village today, as a road was damaged in heavy rains, an official said. A total of 10.90-quintal ration was supplied to Bara Bhangal village in Baijnath area of Kangra district via four helicopter sorties from Chamba. It was done as per the instructions issued by Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur, said Sandeep Kumar, district deputy commissioner. The pedestrian path between Bara Gaon and Bara Bhangal was damaged in heavy rains, Kumar said. Baijnath MLA Mulkh Raj personally monitored the entire process. Ration will also be supplied to the village through helicopter tomorrow, Kumar said. Cauvery in spate;inundates low-lying areas, swamps crops in TN

Several low-lying areas were inundated along the banks of Cauvery river and its tributary Bhavani in various parts of Tamil Nadu today in view of discharge of 1.60 lakh cusecs of water from the Mettur dam following heavy inflows from Karnataka. Chief Minister K Palaniswami chaired a high-level meeting here to review the situation as a flood alert was sounded in 11 districts. Water from Cauvery and Bhavani rivers entered some villages in Dharmapuri, Salem and Erode districts and people had been shifted to safer places, reports received here said. Meanwhile, rains lashed parts of the state and two people died in rain related incidents in Valparai in Coimbatore district, officials said. The water level in the Mettur dam today stood at 120.29 feet as against its maximum of 120 feet and the storage 93.9 tmc against the capacity of 93.4 tmc, prompting authorities to discharge marginally higher than the inflow. Karnataka govt announces Rs 200 crore for flood relief work

Karnataka Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy today announced a grant-in-aid of Rs 200 crore for relief work in districts hit by floods and landslides in the State due to incessant rains. He was speaking to reporters after reviewing the situation inthe rain-affected districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Chikkmagaluru, Kodagu and parts of Hassan and Uttara Kannada. The Chief Minister said Rs 237.55 crore was available with alldistrict commissioners and there was no dearth of funds totake up relief measures.
