A portion of a pavement outside the underground Greater Kailash metro station caved in early today due to accumulation of water after heavy rainfall, a DMRC official said. "GK is a low-lying area having regular drainage issues. Repair of the caved-in portion is in progress and the affected area will be restored by tomorrow morning," the official said, using an acronym for Greater Kailash. However, metro services were not affected on Botanical GardenJanakpuri West Magenta Line, on which the station falls. "The DMRC is now filling below the road with additional concrete to avoid the recurrence of this problem in future," the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation official added. The metro station was opened for public in May this year.
Three persons were killed in a road accident after a truck hit a bike on NH 31 in Bihar's Khagaria district last night, police said. The incident occurred when a truck coming from the opposite direction collided with the two-wheeler, carrying them, near Devtha Bajrangbali chowk under Pasraha police station. The three persons were returning home after attending a party at their relative's house at Narayanpur, Pasraha police station SHO Ashish Kumar Singh said. The deceased have been identified as Mohammad Ejamul, Mohammad Ajmer and Mohammad Kaiser, the SHO said. The accident victims, in the age group of 20 to 22 years, were residents of Maraiya village in the district. When a patrolling police party took them to Khagaria sadar hospital, the doctors declared them brought dead, he said. The truck driver managed to escape from the spot after the incident.

A 36-year-old woman from Chhattisgarh was killed after being hit by a goods train here, an official of the Government Railway Police (GRP) said today. Savitri Devi, belonging to a family of labourers, was residing in a temporary shelter near the railway tracks. She was crossing the tracks at Sainik Colony in the outskirts of the city when she got hit by the train and died on the spot, the official said. The body was handed over to her family members after post-mortem, he said.

Amid intermittent rainfall, rescuers today continued to remove the debris of the two buildings that collapsed in Greater Noida killing at least nine people, including women and a toddler. They have deployed heavy machines to clear the rubble but were moving cautiously to avoid harming anyone trapped under the debris. They, however, said most of the debris has been cleared and the possibility of anyone being trapped there appeared remote. A six-floor under-construction building had crashed on a five-storey building next to it in Shahberi village under Bisrakh police station area on Tuesday night. Since then, the rescue operation has continued. Sniffer dogs were deployed to detect signs of life under the debris. "We have cleared most of the debris and checked the remaining for any signs of life. Two Nepalese labourers were buried alive and as many got trapped in the rubble of a landslide in Uttarakhand's Chamoli district today. The landslide occurred near Jhelum village on Joshimath-Malari road, District Disaster Management officer N K Joshi said. Two bodies were pulled out of the debris and efforts underway to rescue the trapped people, he said. The Badrinath highway was closed due to landslide at Lambagad since last night while yatra to Hemkund Sahib going uninterrupted, he said.

At least 11 people, including children, died after a boat carrying tourists on a Missouri lake capsized and sank, the local sheriff said. Stone County Sheriff Doug Rader said five people remain missing and seven others were hospitalized after a Ride the Ducks boat sank on Table Rock Lake in Branson. A spokeswoman for the Cox Medical Center Branson said four adults and three children arrived at the hospital shortly after the incident. Twelve school teachers sustained injuries after a vehicle they were travelling in collided head-on with an oil tanker on the Bhiwani-Loharu road near Lohani village here today, police said. The teachers of Arya School were headed for Bhiwani in a jeep when the accident occurred, Bhiwani police station in-charge Deshraj said, adding that most of the victims were stuck inside the vehicle for quite some time after the mishap. The injured included seven women and five men, he said. They were rushed to the Chaudhary Bansilal Hospital here, the officer said, adding that four among them were in critically condition and were referred to the PGIMS, Rohtak.

The body of a tanker driver who was swept away along with the vehicle in the Pangoli river was recovered today after 45 hours of a joint operation, officials said. The body of Gautam Patil (48) was found 15 kms away from the spot of the incident, they said. The incident occurred on Tuesday night when the tanker driven by Patil was swept away in swirling waters of the river on KamthaAmgaon Road in the district. A joint operation was undertaken by District Disaster Management Authority and the State Disaster Response Force (SDRF) on Tuesday night itself. The tanker was found two kms away from the spot of the accident.
Twenty four pilots involved in various cases of accidents and technical snags were either suspended or off-rostered during the last three years, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Minister of State for Civil Aviation Jayant Sinha in a written reply in the House said that 58 aircraft maintenance engineers were also found "blameworthy for snag" due to maintenance error and were either suspended or issued warning. With regard to technical snags and defects, he said the DGCA has laid down regulations and procedures wherein operators are required to monitor snags and take corrective actions on the "adverse trend". "Based on the review of investigation report during the last three years, 24 pilots were suspended/off-roastered and were released subsequently after undergoing corrective training," Sinha said.
