Kerala Infrastructure and Technology for Education (KITE) has invited tenders to equip all secondary schools in the state with digital recording and video conferencing facilities as part of the ambitious Hi-Tech School programme. Under the unique programme, 45,000 classrooms in 4,775 schools are in the process of being upgraded as hi-tech. There will also be an array of 'Student Reporters' from all schools with their own web-based school televisions that will be interconnected. As part the state government's Public Education Rejuvenation Mission, KITE has begun the process for deploying video recording devices for digital content preparation at schools along with video conferencing systems, a KITE press release said. KITE has released the national tender for 4,775 numbers of multi-function printers, HD DSLR camera, HD webcam and 42-inch LED TVs, the deployment of which would be completed by June. While speaking at the inauguration of the three-day International Virat Gurukul Sammelan in Ujjain on Saturday, Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan said that the state will register 'gurukuls', which will be treated like mainstream schools."The state will register gurukuls and treat them equivalent to mainstream schools. Every district will promote the gurukul system and the government will help trusts to open new gurukuls," said Chouhan, during the conference.According to reports, about 900 gurukuls from India and Nepal are attending the event and planning to bring gurukul education into the mainstream.On the same day, Union Human Resource Development minister Prakash Javadekar had stated that the government is planning to revive the ancient Vedic system of education because only vedic learning can turn the upcoming generation into patriots.The minister also indicated at forming a new education policy and making a draft for the same within three months.

The Noida administration has ordered a probe into the admission process in schools after complaints were received that parents were submitting fake income certificates to get their wards admitted under the Right to Education Act. Noida District Magistrate B N Singh said he has ordered the probe which will be supervised by the city magistrate. The admission process for the new session, however, will continue, he said. He said the district administration has so far admitted 229 students in various private schools in the city but he was getting complaints that several parents have procured fake income certificates for admission of their children under the Act though they have annual income more than one lakh rupee. The DM has directed the city magistrate to send notices to parents and check the authenticity of their income certificates. He has also appealed to the public to provide information of persons having higher income whose names appears in the RTE Act beneficiaries.

Nine professors of the Central University of Gujarat (CUG) have been issued show cause notices for allegedly campaigning for the Congress during the recently held Gujarat Assembly polls. CUG Vice Chancellor S A Bari today said a professor, an associate professor and seven assistant professors were asked for an explanation on complaints received by the Union HRD ministry and the state education department. He said the notices were issued on the basis of a complaint received by the Chief Electoral Officer of Gujarat which alleged that the teachers were involved in campaigning for a particular party and its candidates. "Some of our teachers appear in the photographs that have been enclosed with the complaint as evidence and their names have been written in the letters. The Shiromani Akali Dal (SAD) in Punjab today claimed that chapters on Sikh Gurus have been "expunged" from Class 12 history books of the state education board, but Chief Minister Amarinder Singh dismissed as "malicious" the opposition party's allegation. Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti today inaugurated multiple building complexes at the Cluster University here, hoping the infrastructure development would give academic activities at the varsity a new push. The Haryana government has decided to set up dedicated clubs in all universities and colleges in the state to inculcate 'entrepreneurial culture' among youth. The setting up of Entrepreneurship Development Clubs (EDCs) is aimed at equipping the youth with skills to act as "job creators instead of being job seekers" in future, the Haryana Higher Education department said today. Education minister Ram Bilas Sharma said the EDCs would be set up within the existing placement centres in all the higher educational institutions in the state, according to an official statement. "This would be a part of the department's drive to encourage innovation and entrepreneurship in the state. These clubs would also facilitate campus-industry linkage on the higher education institutes of the state," he said. The Jammu and Kashmir government today decided to continue with the existing system for conduct of examinations in November session for the current academic year in schools in the Valley. The education department had initiated a proposal for change of academic session from November to March on the demand of parents and the students. The Tamil Nadu government today announced a relief of Rs three lakh to the families of three students from the city who drowned in a Pune dam recently. Chief Minister K Palaniswami condoled the death of S Saravanakumar, K Danish Raja and G Santhosh, who drowned in the Mulshi dam located around 50 km from Pune early this week. The three were part of a group of 20 students of Chennai's ECS Matriculation school who were visiting the dam along with their teachers on April 25. The incident occurred after all students entered the backwaters for swimming. While the body of Raja was fished out by the local police with the help of villagers, those of the two others were retrieved by a team of 26 personnel from the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF).
