A bench of Acting Chief Justice Gita Mittal and Justice C Hari Shankar rejected the plea filed by an NGO, Suniye, seeking to either change the date of re-examination of class 12th exam or make it optional on the ground that the decided date was close to some entrance examinations, including National Defence Academy (NDA) and engineering. Govt seeks review of SC order on faculty reservation: Javadekar

The government has moved the Supreme Court to seek review of its judgement upholding an Allahabad High Court order to prepare a department-wise roster of teachers' vacancies for SC and ST candidates. "We have filed a special leave petition before the Supreme Court in this connection on behalf of the UGC and the ministry. I hope it is heard soon so that there is justice," HRD Minister Prakash Javadekar told reporters at BJP headquarters here. "We feel that the roster of SC/ST teachers be prepared considering entire institution as an unit, in line with an old mechanism, and not a department. Since there was an order in this connection a circular was issued," he added. Scientists marched in the national capital today against "concerted efforts by some interest groups" to undermine science and to send a message that the propagation of "unscientific ideas" should be stopped. The 'March for Science' organised in Delhi was a part of a larger programme across the world to rally science supporters to defend the formation of evidence-based policy decisions. The march began at Mandi House and concluded at Parliament Street. A similar march was organised by scientists last year. "In India concerted efforts by some interest groups to undermine science continue unabated. Unscientific and superstitious beliefs are being propagated at an accelerate rate," the organising committee behind the march said in an appeal. The march comes in the backdrop of criticism by science supporters that more thrust was being given to claims made without enough validation.
