The Manochetna Academic and Research Centre (MARC), a wing of the Manovikas Kendra, that works for children with learning difficulties in mainstream schools, will confer 'Teacher with a Heart Award' to 20 teachers in such schools across West Bengal. This will be an outreach initiative to honour teachers who have done exemplary service to the children of mainstream schools, which admit students diagnosed with learning difficulties, MARC Director Arundhati Sarkar said here today. The teachers have been selected by a panel of academic experts after the names were nominated by their respective institutions. They have been selected on criterion like "being compassionate to children and coming to their side when they are in emotional need," Sarkar said. The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBSE) informed the Delhi High Court that decision of not having the re-exam of Class Xth Maths paper was taken after conducting trend analysis of Science, Maths and English papers.The CBSE said that they cannot put lakhs of students in difficulty just for one student who wanted a re-exam of Maths paper.A bench comprising of Justices Gita Mittal and C Hari Shankar asked numerous questions to the student's counsel, who has been seeking re-conduct of the exam.On April 16, the court asked the CBSE to find out the reasons for the decision for not re-conducting the examination.The question papers of class XII Economics and class X Mathematics exams held on March 26 and March 28 respectively, were leaked on Whatsapp.The re-examination of the Class XII Economics paper will be conducted on April 25. The Madras High Court today ordered Rs 25 lakh compensation to a boy who lost his eyesight when a classmate threw a stone at him in the school, holding that the authorities had the duty to look after children in schools. Rejecting the private school's argument that fights among students in the class was a thing beyond its control, the court said it was the duty of the authorities to take care of children after parents leave them in school. Passing orders on a petition filed by the boy's mother, K Ranjees Mary, Justice M V Muralidharan said but for the negligence in the discharge of duty, the boy would not have lost his eyesight. The student, R Remish Fedlin, of the school in Kanyakumari district, was injured in the eye when his classmate threw a stone at him during special class in May 2010. The headmaster of a primary school in Howrah district was arrested today for allegedly molesting several girl students of the school, police said. A large number of guardians gathered in front of the school in Jagatballabhpur police station area during the day and started a demonstration demanding the headmaster's arrest alleging that he molested a number of girl students. A police team led by Deputy Superintendent of Police Shanti Sen went there and tried to pacify the guardians. The guardians alleged that on April 13 the headmaster had molested a girl of class 4 by calling her to his chamber on the pretext of holding a special class, police said. They also alleged that he had also molested some other girl students of the school earlier. A police team then went to Chandul village and arrested the headmaster from his house. The son of the arrested headmaster said his father was framed as he has been framed very strict. Investigations are on, police said.

The JNU today told the Delhi High Court that there was peace in the varsity as classes were going on smoothly and nobody was agitating, as of now, against a decision to make at least 75 per cent attendance a must for all the students. The St Xavier's University (SXU) would approach the West Bengal government seeking more land for expansion of its campus at New Town to start new disciplines, its vice-chancellor said today. The university would start a two-year residential MBA programme from the academic session starting August 2018 at its 17 acre New Town campus. "We will approach the chief minister for at least 10 acres of land opposite the existing campus or contagious to it for starting a law school and a sports management academy," SXU Vice-Chancellor Felix Raj told reporters. The university had already got the AICTE approval to start the MBA programme which would be offered with specialisations in finance, marketing, HR and systems and operations.
