CBSE student moves SC against Maths re-exam

A Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) student from Cochin on Friday approached the Supreme Court against the re-examination of Class X Maths paper.Rohan Mathew approached the apex court against the decision of the CBSE to cancel and re-conduct the Mathematics exam held on March 28 over the question paper leak.Mathew sought the court's direction to the education board to publish results on the basis of already held examination.He also sought setting up of a special high-powered committee to conduct a detailed investigation into the case.The Economics question paper of class XII and Maths question paper of class X were leaked on social media hours before the examination. CBSE paper leak: Board shares details of all complaints received

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has shared details of all the complaints it had received about the Class 10 mathematics and Class 12 economics papers being leaked, a police official said today. The board informed the police that they had received five complaints informing them that the two papers were leaked, an official privy to the probe said. The contents of these complaints have been shared with them and will be examined, the official said. In its complaint to the police, the CBSE had said that they received a complaint by fax on March 23 from an "unknown source" that a man running a coaching institute in Rajendra Nagar was involved in leaking the economics paper. The complaint also named two schools in Rajendra Nagar for their involvement in the alleged leak. Alternate set of ques papers could have checked leaks: ex-CBSE officials

Former CBSE chairman Ashok Ganguly today lashed out at the board for "inept handling"of the CBSE paper leak issue, contending that the introduction of one set of question paper from this year did more harm than good both for the students as well as the board. Delhi University professor J L Gupta, closely associated with the CBSE examination till recently, was also critical of the functioning of the board, observing that "alternate set of question papers" could have saved the board from the present crisis. The anger was palpable as both felt the board needs to be more competent as "complacency" has crept into its functioning. "When you are handling an examination of this magnitude, you should have a Plan B and Plan C ready. The leakages and the delay in announcing the dates of the re-examination of two papers show there was no such plans in place," Ganguly, who headed the board for eight years till 2008, told PTI. J'khand: 6 students detained with solved Maths paper during test

Six students, who allegedly went into their class 10th Mathematics exams with solved papers, were detained in Chatra today in connection with CBSE paper leaks, the police said here. Chatra sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Gyan Ranjan said the six were sitting with solved Maths papers at their test centres on March 28. They have been detained," he said. One of the detainees claimed they allegedly received the papers from Patna, following which a police team was sent to the Bihar capital city for further investigation, the SDPO said. An FIR has been lodged against the four but no arrest has been made as yet, the SDPO said. The CBSE Board examination paper leaks earlier this week has drawn widespread criticism from across the country and triggered students protest.

Devi Ahilya university opts for traditional attire for

The Devi Ahilya University, for the first time since it was established in 1964, asked participants, including dignitaries present, to wear traditional Indian attire for its convocation ceremony, university authorities said. Lok Sabha Speaker Sumitra Mahajan, Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel, Vice Chancellor Narendra Dhakad, along with graduating students, were present at the ceremony today wearing clothes that included a turban native to the Malwa region and a jacket and stole. An official said that the move was to encourage Indianness, adding that the state government had also issued directives that traditional attire should be adopted for these ceremonies instead of the current practice of wearing convocation or graduation gowns and caps.

Pilot accuses BJP of ignoring plight of parents, students facing fee hike

Rajasthan Pradesh Congress Committee president Sachin Pilot today accused the BJP of ignoring the plight of parents and students who are facing fee hike in private schools and demanded clear guidelines from the Centre. Pilot said that private schools are raising fee by 25-30 per cent which is unexpected but the government was not taking any action and ignoring the concern of parents. He also condemned the CBSE paper leak. Centre should issue guideline to control fee hike in private schools. It is the duty of the government to not allow commercialisation of education, Pilot said in a statement here. The CBSE paper leak has come as a rude shock to many class-10 students like R Shreya who fears that she might have to go through the ordeal of preparing for the maths exam all over again which will involve spending money on tuition and fighting a "phobia" for the subject. 'CBSE paper leak information given to police on Mar 27'

The information regarding the CBSE 10th Math's paper leak was given to the police a day before the conduction of examination, claimed a coaching teacher named Chandan Gupta, who is said to be the first one who flagged the incident.Gupta allegedly received a portion of the leaked Math's paper, a day before the exam was conducted on March 28. CBSE Class 12 re-exam on April 25, Class 10 re-test only in Delhi, Haryana

The Human Resource Development (HRD) Ministry on Friday announced that the re-examination for the Economics paper for Class 12 Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) students will be held on 25 April."Re-examination of Class 12th exam will be on 25th April," Union Education Secretary Anil Swarup told media here."Regarding Class 10th re-examination, as the leak was restricted to Delhi and Haryana, if it at all a re-exam will happen, it will happen only in Delhi and Haryana and a decision will be taken on this in next 15 days. Maharashtra Navnirman Sena (MNS) chief Raj Thackeray today asked students and parents to boycott re-examination for the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) exam papers that got leaked. CBSE papers were leaked on 10 WhatsApp groups

The leaked question papers of the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination were shared on 10 WhatsApp groups, said the police on Friday.The Economics question paper of class XII and Maths question paper of class X were leaked on social media hours before the examination. CBSE paper leak: Sisodia asks Javadekar to convene meeting of state edu ministers

Stressing the need to move beyond party politics on the CBSE paper leak issue, Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia today asked HRD minister Prakash Javadekar to convene a meeting of all state education ministers to discuss ways to stop recurrence of such serious incidents. In the wake of the CBSE ordering re-examination of the Class 12 economics and Class 10 maths papers due to paper leak, psychologists have advised the students not to get stressed and direct their energy towards exam preparation. MP governor calls for CCTV surveillance for university exams

Madhya Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel today said the coming examinations of government-run universities in the state should be conducted under the surveillance of CCTV cameras. Being the governor, Patel is the Chancellor of all the universities run by the state government. Speaking at the convocation of Devi Ahilya University here, she said, "CCTV cameras should be installed in all buildings of the state-run universities where written or oral examinations will be conducted in the coming days." This would ensure a transparent examination system, Patel said. Vice chancellors of all the universities have been asked to visit Bhopal on April 6 and present annual calendars of their respective institutions, Patel said. The calendar is supposed to have the schedule of examinations, deadline for declaration of results and details of academic and cultural activities planned for the coming year.
