Ed Harris says he rejected a role in Stanley Kubrick's 'Full Metal Jacket'

Veteran actor Ed Harris said it was a "foolish" decision to say no to a role in Stanley Kubrick's Vietnam war film "Full Metal Jacket". The "Westworld" actor, who has over the years worked with the likes of James Cameron, Ron Howard, David Cronenberg and Darren Aronfosky among others, was offered the role of foul-mouthed Gunnery Sergeant Hartman, which was eventually played by R Lee Ermey. Ermey, 74, died last month from "complications of pneumonia". Harris made the revelation in an interview with Los Angeles Times terming it as one of his career regrets. "Stanley Kubrick called me up one day and asked me to play the sergeant in 'Full Metal Jacket', and I said no," Harris said. "(R Lee Ermey) was great and did a much better job than I would have done. But that always make me kind of go, 'What were you thinking about?' It might have been that I had a few too many beers that night. It was foolish," he added. Cas Anvar joins Diane Kruger in 'The Operative'

Actor Cas Anvar is all set to star opposite Diane Kruger in "The Operative". The espionage thriller will be helmed by Yuval Adler, who has also penned the script of the film, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Kruger, 41, will portray the role of an FBI agent who is recruited by Israel's Mossad service to go undercover in Tehran. Anvar, best known for films such as "Source Code" and "Room", will play Farhad, Kruger's love interest in the film. The story, adapted from the Israeli book "The English Teacher", follows Kruger and Anvar's characters who get caught up in a tangled web of deception and end up spiraling their relationship into a complicated situation that nearly ruins their lives. Filming on the project started in Israel, before shifting to Bulgaria and Germany. It will produced by Eitan Mansuri, Anne Carey, Michael Weber and Viola Fugen.

HBO gives go-ahead to docuseries based on Michelle McNamara's Golden State Killer book

HBO Documentary Films has green lit a docuseries based on Michelle McNamara's bestselling true-crime book "I'll Be Gone in the Dark: One Woman's Obsessive Search for the Golden State Killer". The book is based on a serial killer, who committed 50 home-invasion sexual assaults and ten murders during the 1970s and '80s. He was dubbed as 'The Golden State Killer'. The docuseries, which is currently in production, will be directed by Academy Award nominee and Emmy winner Liz Garbus, HBO said in a statement. McNamara, wife of comedian Patton Oswalt, had died in April 2016 and her book was completed posthumously by her researcher Paul Haynes and colleague Billy Jensen along with Oswalt. On April 24, the Sacramento Sheriff's Office identified former police officer Joseph James DeAngelo as the perpetrator and arrested him at his home in a nearby suburb. He was identified with the help of DNA evidence as the notorious serial killer and was charged with a number of crimes.

Childish Gambino lands publishing deal with Kobalt Music

Singer-actor Donald Glover, whose hip-hop stage act is called Childish Gambino, has been signed on by Kobalt Music to a worldwide publishing agreement. The contract covers publishing administration, as well as global synch and creative support services for all of Gambino's future projects following his studio album 'Awaken, My Love!', which was released in December 2016. The deal also extends to the rapper's creative agency, Wolf + Rothstein. It comprises of Glover, Wolf Taylor, and Fam Rothstein, all whom worked with the band that helped compose the critically acclaimed 'Awaken, My Love!'. "Donald is one of those rare multi-talented artistes who can do it all. It's an honour to sign Donald and Wolf + Rothstein Collective to the Kobalt family," Kobalt Music SVP, Creative, Al McLean, said in a statement. The 34-year-old actor will next be seen in "Solo: A Star Wars Story", portraying the role of young Lando Calrissian.

Late Paramount CEO accused of rape in $100 mn lawsuit

A man, named Rovier Carrington, who claims to be the great-grandson of 'Three Stooges' actor Moe Howard, has accused the late Paramount Pictures chief Brad Grey of raping him and threatening to ruin his budding career in showbiz. He has demanded 100 million dollars in damages.In a lawsuit filed on Tuesday in New York State Supreme Court, lawyers of Carrington said he was 'blacklisted' from working with Paramount's parent company Viacom Inc after he refused to sign a nondisclosure agreement following the alleged assault by Grey, reports The Hollywood Reporter.Besides Grey, the 32-page suit also accused producer and former MTV Networks President of Programming Brian Graden of sexually assaulting Carrington."We take allegations of this sort seriously, and are reviewing the complaint," Viacom said in a statement.Grey, a longtime Hollywood talent manager before taking the reins of Paramount in 2005, ran the studio until he was ousted in February 2017. Actors Tim Blake Nelson and Michael C Hall have joined the cast of CIA drama "The Torture Report". The two actors join Annette Bening, Adam Driver, and Jon Hamm in the film, which will be directed by Scott Z Burns, reported Deadline. Trump hints of imminent news on Americans detained in N Korea

US President Donald Trump hinted today that there would be imminent news about three Americans detained in North Korea, after sources said they had been relocated ahead of their possible release. The development comes as Trump is preparing for a historic summit meeting with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un. "The past Administration has long been asking for three hostages to be released from a North Korean Labour camp, but to no avail. Stay tuned!" Trump wrote on Twitter.
