Inquiry into 'irregularities' in making temple idol begins

The Idol Wing of Tamil Nadu police today started a probe into the alleged irregularities in the making of an idol for the famous Dhandayuthapani Swamy temple, in 2004, here. The Idol Theft Smuggling Prevention Wing IG Pon Manicka Vel interrogated the present Joint Commissioner of HR and CE department Selvaraj in this connection, police said. Those involved in the making of idol would also be questioned, they said. According to temple sources, nearly 200 kg of gold had been received for making the idol of the presiding deity, Lord Muruga. During a recent inspection of the new idol, a team of metallurgists from IIT-M found that it was sculpted without the specified quantities including the gold. The experts concluded that there was a vast difference between the weight of gold used in making the idol and what had been accounted. Donald Glover posts unsparing 'script' for cancelled 'Deadpool' series

Donald Glover is miffed with the cancellation of "Deadpool" animated series and the actor vented out his anger by posting a 15-page fake script for the show. In the script posted on his official Twitter account, the "Atlanta" star took potshots at Marvel for backing out of the project and dwelled upon the reason for it. As per the script, titled "Finale", Deadpool wakes up in a Jeep in Kenya as he takes a mission involving Sudan, the last male northern white rhino that died recently. Nolan to present 70mm print of Kubrick's '2001: A Space Odyssey' at Cannes

Filmmaker Christopher Nolan will present the 70mm print of Stanley Kubrick's masterpiece "2001: A Space Odyssey" at the Cannes Film Festival to mark the movie's 50th anniversary. The film will be introduced by Nolan on May 12 as part of the Cannes Classics programme and the screening will be attended by members of Kubrick's family, including his daughter Katharina Kubrick and his longtime producing partner and brother-in-law Jan Harlan, the festival organisers said in a statement. The next day, Nolan will participate in a Cannes Masterclass during which he will discuss his award-winning filmography while shedding a light on his passion for the work of Kubrick. Scarlett Johansson to star in Taika Waititi's 'Jojo Rabbit'

Actor Scarlett Johansson has come aboard the cast of Taika Waititi's World War II film "Jojo Rabbit". The 33-year-old actor is in final negotiations with Fox Searchlight to star in the project, which is about a young German boy who finds out that his mother is hiding a Jewish girl in their home. Waititi, who has penned the script, is producing the project along with Carthew Neal and Chelsea Winstanley, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Johansson will be next seen in "Avengers: Infinity War". She has also lent her voice to Wes Anderson's animated film "Isle of Dogs". Scarlett Johansson will be seen in a period film set in the backdrop of World War II.The film titled 'Jojo Rabbit' will be produced by Taika Waititi of 'Thor: Ragnarok' fame.According to Hollywood Reporter, Johansson is in final negotiations for the project set in the Nazi-era Germany.The film is going to be a satirical, based on the struggles faced by a 10-year-old boy in an increasingly fascist Germany. Hugh Jackman in talks for 'Bad Education'

Actor Hugh Jackman is in negotiations to star in the drama "Bad Education". The script for the film has been penned by Mike Makowsky. The plot details are not known yet but it will be based on Makowsky's high school experience. Pedro Pascal to star in 'Wonder Woman 2'

Actor Pedro Pascal has joined the cast of "Wonder Woman 2". The "Game of Thrones" and "Narcos" star will play a pivotal role in the film and no other details about his character are known as of yet, reported Entertainment Weekly. The film has a release date of November 1, 2019. It will reportedly take place in the 1980s, against the backdrop of the Cold War. Gal Gadot, who played the iconic superhero in the blockbuster original film and later reprised it in "Justice League", will be back for the sequel along with director Patty Jenkins. Actor Kristen Wiig recently came aboard the project and will be essaying the role of supervillain Cheetah. 'The Crown' finds its new Prince Philip in Tobias Menzies

"Game of Thrones" star Tobias Menzies has been cast in the role of Prince Philip in Netflix's royal drama "The Crown". The 44-year-old actor will take over the role from Matt Smith for the show's third and fourth seasons, according to The Hollywood Reporter. Smith played the role for two years alongside Claire Foy as Queen Elizabeth II, who will now be portrayed by Olivia Colman as the show jumps ahead a few years. Colman and Menzies had earlier worked together on spy drama "The Night Manager". Helena Bonham Carter is also poised to join the show as Princess Margaret, replacing Vanessa Kirby. Reed Morano in talks for drama 'Keeper of the Diary'

"The Handmaid's Tale" helmer Reed Morano is in negotiations to direct Anne Frank-diary drama "Keeper of the Diary". The story follows Otto Frank's quest to find a publisher for his daughter Anne Frank's diary, which became one of the enduring documents of the Holocaust. Only one woman was willing to help him - a young editor named Barbara Zimmerman, who co-founded and co-edited New York Review of Books. "Murder on the Orient Express" helmer Kenneth Branagh was earlier in talks to direct and star as Otto Frank in the project, which is being developed by Fox Searchlight, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The studio won "Keeper of the Diary" in an auction for the script by Sam Franco and Evan Kilgore. Last year, Morano, 40, won an Emmy for directing episodes of Hulu's dystopian feminist drama "The Handmaid's Tale". She is currently shooting for the thriller "The Rhythm Section", starring Blake Lively.
