Actor Kangana Ranaut today dismissed rumours that there was a romantic sequence involving Rani Laxmibai in her film "Manikarnika", saying those spreading such stories are actually defaming the queen. Brahmin group 'Sarv Brahmin Mahasabha' from Rajasthan has raised objection over the film, alleging it features a romantic scene between Rani Laxmibai and a British East India company agent. Kangana, who is in the city to shoot for the film, said the crew is hurt by such allegations. "It is very lowly (neech baat) to even think like that about Rani Laxmibai. 54 pvt TV channels violated programme, advert codes since 2014
As many as 54 private television channels have violated the programme and advertising codes since 2014, the Lok Sabha was informed today. Seventeen channels each violated the code in 2014 and 2015, while 16 channels in 2016, Information and Broadcasting Minister Smriti Zubin Irani said in a written reply. However, there was a sharp dip in 2017 with only four channels found to have violated the code, Irani said. She said that all the programmes and advertisements telecast on private satellite TV channels were required to adhere to the Programme and Advertising Codes prescribed under the Cable Television Networks (Regulation) Act, 1995, and Cable Television Network Rules, 1994. The minister said that the Act does not provide for pre- censorship of any programme or advertisement telecast on the channels. Actor Geoffery Rush has successfully applied to supress the details of the defense arguments of Australian newspaper The Daily Telegraph, against which he had filed a defamation lawsuit. The 66-year-old actor had sued the paper late last year after it had published an article, which was later deleted, alleging that the Sydney Theatre Company had received a complaint against Rush, who had starred in 2015-2016 production of "King Lear". "Padmaavat" release deferred in Indore
The proposed release of controversial film "Padmaavat" in Indore today has been deferred, office-bearers of a film association said. The film distributors and theatre owners in the city had two days back, agreed to screen the film today after the state government assured to provide adequate security cover. "The release of "Padmaavat" in Indore, which was to happen today, has been put off. Right now, we cannot exactly tell when it will be released here," director of Central Circuit Cine Association (CCCA), O P Goyal, told PTI. An Indian-origin student was in for a surprise when she received a typewriter from none other than Hollywood star Tom Hanks. Jessica Khera could not believe her eyes when she saw the typewriter, addressed to her arrived, at her Fusion Academy Sugar Land, Texas. Khera's teacher Deanne Owen, who had assigned her to read Tom Hanks' book "Uncommon Type" and watch the documentary "California Typewriting", successfully guessed who might have sent the gift, reported Fox 26. "I was just like, it has to be from Tom Hanks," said Owen. "We had a mutual love of Tom Hanks, and we knew that he'd just written a book," she added. Actor Kamal Haasan, who is set to foray into politics soon, will meet a set of "key world influencers from Tamil Nadu," during his ongoing US visit, his office said today. As part of the initiative, he has "met Dr KR Sridhar, Founder and CEO, Bloom Energy in Sunnyvale, California, to discuss the prospect of clean energy solutions for Tamil Nadu," the actor's office said in a release. Sridhar had been director of the Space Technologies Laboratory at the University of Arizona, the release said. "Later, he led a project that built a Mars oxygen production cell.
