Globes: Portman takes a jibe at 'all-male' director category

Golden Globes 2018 snubbed women filmmakers from the Best Director category and the decision did not go down well with presenter Natalie Portman, who slammed the Hollywood Foreign Press Association for making it an 'all-men' space. Portman attended the awards night to announce the winner for the Best Director category and after co-presenter Ron Howard introduced the nominees she sarcastically said, "And here are the all-male nominees." Director Guillermo Del Toro went on to win the award for "The Shape of Water," but many fans felt women directors like Greta Gerwig, Dee Rees and Patty Jenkins were unfairly shut out of the category. Del Toro was nominated alongside Martin McDonagh for "Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri", Christopher Nolan for "Dunkirk", Ridley Scott for "All the Money in the World" and Steven Spielberg for "The Post". Only one woman has ever won in the category is Barbra Streisand, for "Yentl" in 1984. Many celebs and fans took to Twitter to ...

Weinstein casts 'black' shadow on Globes, 'Three Billboards'

"Three Billboards Outside Ebbing, Missouri" today won four Golden Globes, including Best Drama, in an overtly political awards ceremony where Hollywood's biggest turned up in black to say it was "Time's Up" for sexual harassment. The glittering 75th Golden Globes ceremony, honouring achievements in television and cinema, sent out the message that a new post Harvey Weinstein-era could be on the horizon. "Three Billboards...", about an angry mother who goes to extremes to keep the investigation focused on her daughter's murder, became a front-runner at the Oscars. McDormand won Best Actress in a Motion Picture - Drama Golden Globe, co-star Sam Rockwell won Best Supporting Actor and Martin McDonagh was recognised for Best Screenplay. The awards were dedicated to what McDormand referred to as the "tectonic shift" in ...

Globes: James Franco wins Best Actor in Musical or Comedy

James Franco won 2018's Golden Globe for Best Actor in a Comedy or Musical for his portrayal of independent filmmaker and actor Tommy Wiseau in "The Disaster Artist". The film is a semi-fictional retelling of the production of Wiseau's 2003 film "The Room", labelled as "the worst movie ever made." The 39-year-old actor accepted the award alongside Wiseau, while noticeably blocking him away from taking the microphone onstage. Franco opened his rambling speech by quoting Wiseau's reference to the Golden Globes two decades ago, and his lack of an invite to the show as a motivation to make "The Room." "'Golden Globes, so what? I'm not invited. I know they don't want me, guy with accent, long hair. So, I show them. I don't wait for Hollywood, I make my own movie,'" Franco said, quoting Wiseau. "I'm very happy to share this moment with him today," he added. "This was billed as a movie about making the best worst movie ever made," the four-time Golden Globe nominee said as he .
