Some deleted MySpace music tracks are back from the dead

MySpace conducted a server migration activity last month that resulted in 50 million songs getting accidentally deleted. However, an anonymous academic group had a copy of those tracks during their research work and now peace is restored.According to The Verge, the group was studying music networks while MySpace was still active and as part of their research, it downloaded 1.3 terabytes of music from the service. When the news of the data loss broke out, the group contacted the Internet Archive and agreed to share the files. The Internet Archive has now published a catalogue of 490,000 MySpace songs uploaded to the service between 2008 and 2010. These songs are less than one percent of the estimated 50 million songs which were lost during the botched migration. The retrieved collection is now available through an online interface designed to resemble MySpace's original music player. You can search through the database using the 'Hobbit' searcher.

'Shivling' under wooden planks at 'Dabangg 3' set creates row

Bollywood superstar Salman Khan got embroiled in a controversy when photographs of a "Shivling" covered with wooden planks during the shooting of his film "Dabangg 3" surfaced on social media Thursday. Salman, who is shooting for the film in the religious town of Maheshwar in Madhya Pradesh, later issued a clarification and said the "Shivling" was covered with wooden planks to protect the idol and maintain its sanctity. The film's set was created on the banks of the river Narmada in Maheshwar. BJP MLA from Huzur in Bhopal district Rameshwar Sharma, in a statement, said incidents of religious sentiments of Hindus getting hurt have gone up ever since the Kamal Nath- led Congress government was formed in December last year. He demanded registration of an FIR against those behind the incident, which he claimed, showed disrespect to Lord ...

Actor Rajpal Yadav on Thursday met Delhi Congress president Sheila Dikshit at her residence here, triggering speculation that he could join the party and contest the May 12 Lok Sabha election from a seat in the national capital. Yadav confirmed the meeting with the former Delhi chief minister and said he has often paid visits to Dikshit. He said he plans to contest the Lok Sabha election from Delhi. A senior Delhi Congress leader said Yadav sought the party ticket from North East Delhi seat, currently held by Delhi BJP president and popular Bhojpuri singer-actor Manoj Tiwari. Congress poll promise of curbing monopolies in media 'anachronic': Jaitley

Congress party's poll promise of curbing monopolies in media and ending cross-ownership of media segments is "anachronic" and aimed at restricting free journalism, Finance Minister Arun Jaitley said Thursday. In its election manifesto, the Congress has promised to pass a law to curb monopolies in the media, cross-ownership of different segments and control of the media by other business organisations. If it comes to power, the party also said it would enact a legislation to preserve the freedom of the internet and prevent its arbitrary and frequent shutdowns. "The media chapter (of the Congress' manifesto) contains suggestions each one of which will regulate and restrict free journalism and otherwise multiplicity of Indian media. It is anachronic. "It is not in tune with the times. However, even while drafting this chapter, a new facility is sought to be provided to the terrorists and the insurgents," Jaitley said in a blog. On the proposal regarding the internet, Jaitley said the ...

There has to be basic honesty: Javed Akhtar on Modi biopic credit row

Javed Akhtar says it was unfair on "PM Narendra Modi" producers part to rehash his old song and put his name in the credits on the film's poster when he hadn't even worked on the remake version. On March 22, Akhtar took to Twitter to say that he had not written any songs for the Vivek Oberoi-starrer and was "shocked" to find his name on its poster. Akhtar, in an interview with PTI, said the practice was against "basic honesty". "Nowadays, it has become a frequent practice that people buy rights of a song from an old film. They re-record it and use it. This is not fair," Akhtar said. The veteran lyricist said the producer of the Modi biopic had picked up a song "Ishwar Allah" that he had done for Deepa Mehta's "1947: Earth" and they re-recorded it after buying the rights from T-series. "They gave my name in the poster as the songwriter of this film. I was never the songwriter of this picture. Why give my name on the poster? If you want to thank or honour me, tell me why did you deprive
