Earth anthem penned by Indian poet-diplomat premiered in Europe

In a proud moment for the nation, an earth anthem penned by Indian poet and diplomat Abhay Kumar was recently performed at Amsterdam Business Gala Awards.The anthem was performed by a well-known opera singer Maria Novella Malfetti and the musicians of the Amsterdam Van Conservatorium at the awards on June 7.Addressing the gathering through a video message, Abhay said: "Wherever we are from, we have our planet in common and we can come together to sing an Earth Anthem."Malfatti described her experience of singing the Anthem "exciting and full of joy."His inspiration to write the anthem came after he saw 'Blue Marble,' an image of our planet taken from the space, eleven years ago in Russia.The music was released in 2013 in New Delhi on the occasion of the World Environment Day at a function organised by the Indian Council of Cultural Relations (ICCR).The earth anthem has, by far, been translated into more than 30 languages and has been put to music by Dr L Subramaniam and sung by Kavita

Man attacked with blade after quarrel over mobile game

A man was allegedly attacked with a blade by an acquaintance in northeast Delhi after a quarrel when the former refused to show a video game on his mobile phone, police said on Sunday. The incident occurred on Saturday night in Welcome area. The quarrel broke out when the accused, Subhan, asked Farukuddin to show him the video game on his mobile phone. When Farukuddin, who is apparently in his early twenties, refused, Subhan attacked him with a blade, the police said. A passerby, Talib, tried to intervene and got injured. He went to the hospital alone and got treated for his injuries, an officer said. Farukuddin, who suffered sharp injuries, was rushed to a hospital, where he was treated and discharged after treatment, a senior officer said. A case has been registered and Subhan arrested, police said.

Filmmaker Nancy Meyers says she is not amused when a film critic obsesses over the image of kitchens in her movies. Megastar Amitabh Bachchan's longtime secretary and film producer Sheetal Jain passed away Saturday morning. He was 77. Jain had been working with the Bachchan family closely for over 36 years.
