Mumbai HC restrains release of film 'Ram Janmabhoomi'

Release of the film 'Ram Janmabhoomi' was restrained by the Bombay High Court on Thursday citing that the makers have not obtained certification from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC).The Court has also asked YouTube to pull down the trailer of the film until it is certified by the CBFC.The directions were issued after a Pune based activist Azhar Tamboli filed a petition, through advocates Hasnain and Raeed Kazi, stating that if the film was released, it would disrupt communal harmony in the country. The petition was filed on the basis of the film's trailer."The issue is that the dialogues and visuals used in the film don't fulfill the guidelines listed in the cinematograph act of 1952," said Hasnani Kazi. On the 62nd death anniversary of B R Ambedkar, Union minister Thaawarchand Gehlot Thursday launched the website of a first-of-its-kind media school to train Dalit and tribal youth in journalism. The media school, Dr Bhim Rao Ramji Ambedkar School Of Media Empowerment (ASME), supported by the Indian Institute of Mass Communication (IIMC), will have its branches in Pune, Assam, Uttarakhand and other regions. The Pune branch will begin shortly. The Social Justice and Empowerment minister said the media school was an effort to encourage the youth belonging to marginalised segments to find their place through the profession of journalism, as he assured every possible cooperation from his ministry. The Bombay High Court on Thursday dismissed a plea filed against Abhishek Kapoor directorial 'Kedarnath' claiming that the movie allegedly hurt the religious sentiments of people.The Court heard the plea today and dismissed it after hearing both the sides.The petition, filed by lawyers Ramesh Chandra Mishra and Prabhakar Tripathi, sought to reassess the flick by Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC) on grounds that "it hurts religious sentiments and promotes love-jihad".The petition claimed that "The love story between a Hindu girl (played by Sara) and a Muslim boy (played by Sushant) will create a drastic situation and will promote love-jihad."The plea also stated that shooting a love scene at a place like Kedarnath, which is an important pilgrimage site for Hindus, hurts their religious sentiments.The petitions also demanded to stall the release of the Sushant Singh Rajput and Sara Ali Khan starrer movie, slated for release on December 7, unless the CBFC clears it again.The ...
