TN Min urges film industry stakeholders to join hands to fight
Tamil Nadu Information and Broadcasting Minister 'Kadambur' Raju Sunday urged all stake holders in the film industry to come together to combat video piracy. Speaking at a function here, he said, if the Tamil Nadu Film Producers' Council, film exhibitors and theatre owners join hands, the government can take all steps to eradicate piracy. "Piracy is becoming a challenge. Tamilrockers (a portal which releases pirated versions of films online) is becoming a challenge", he noted. Video piracy has been plaguing the Tamil film industry for long prompting the producers to approach courts for direction to block websites that upload newly released films online. Recently, the Rajinikanth starrer 2.0 was illegally uploaded on an active piracy website, www.tamilrockers.com.

NEZCC established to preserve rich cultural heritage of NE
Nagaland Governor P B Acharya Sunday said the North East Zone Cultural Centre (NEZCC) was established with the main objective of promoting and preserving the rich cultural heritage of the north east states. He said the north east is well known for its distinct culture and traditional lifestyle and offers a mixed culture of different religion. Every tribal group of these states has its own unique tribal culture, tribal folk dance, food and crafts. Though each tribe has its own identity, culture, tradition, people live in harmony and peacefully, Acharya said at the Hornbill festival. Top journalists from several countries at a summit here Sunday underscored the increasing influence of social media amid the expansion of Information Technology and agreed in toto that fake news posed a serious challenge to reliability of media. Heads of media organisations and other top-notch journalists voiced their views on role of media in the context of present challenges before the world, at the ongoing Asia-Pacific Summit-2018 here, and stressed on need for self-regulation while ensuring freedom of expression and practising "clean journalism", on the lines of "clean climate". Washington Times president Thomas P McDevitt said the influence of social media has grown in this age of Information and Technology. Sony Pictures and Blumhouse's movie adaptation of popular television series "Fantasy Island" will hit the theatres on Feb 28, 2020. According to Variety, the movie stars Michael Pena as Mr Roarke. Lisa Hale will play one of the guests at a mysterious island where people can live out their fantasies for a price. Jimmy O Yang has also been cast along with Portia Doubelday, Maggie Q and Ryan Hansen. The "Fantasy Island" television series, which ran for seven seasons on the ABC Network from 1977 to 1984, dealt with dark themes and the supernatural. Ricardo Montalban played the role of Mr Roarke in the television series. Jeff Wadlow is directing the film and penning the script with Chris Roach and Jillian Jacobs.
Stephen Schiff comes on board as showrunner for Diego Luna's 'Star Wars' series
Stephen Schiff has been roped in to serve as the showrunner for live-action Star Wars series starring Diego Luno. The series which will be streamed on Disney+ is based on based "Rogue One: A Star Wars Story". According to Deadline, Schiff will also serve as executive producer on the series, which will see Rogue One's star Luna reprising his role as Cassian Andor. Lucasfilm produces the series, which follows the adventures of rebel spy Andor during the formative years of the Rebellion and prior to the events of Rogue One. Production is slated to begin next year. This is one of two Star Wars-themed original series created for the streaming service. Director Jon Favreau is spearheading "The Mandalorian", an origin story based on the warrior race from which bounty hunters Jango Fett and son Boba Fett sprung, with Pedro Pascal, Gina Carano and Nick Nolte expected to star.

"Harry Potter" actor Rupert Grint is set to star in filmmaker M Nigh Shyamalan's upcoming psychological thriller series for Apple. Tony Basgallop has penned the series which also stars Lauren Ambrose and Nell Tiger, reported Deadline. The untitled project, which received a straight-to-series order, was created by Basgallop, who will write and executive produce the series. Shyamalan is executive producing and will direct the first episode. The series will be produced by Shyamalan's Blinding Edge Pictures, with the company's Ashwin Rajan serving as executive producer alongside the Escape Artists team of Jason Blumenthal, Todd Black and Steve Tisch.
