Guwahati Theatre Festival kicks off
The Guwahati Theatre Festival has kicked off with the idea to present the best of Indian theatre to the discerning audience here and has gone on to become a much awaited event in Assam's annual cultural calendar, organisers said. The third edition of the three-day festival began on Friday evening with 'Laughter Therapy', featuring television actor Mona Singh of 'Jassi jaisi koi nahin' fame, and three more plays are scheduled to be staged over the next two days, Festival Chairman Sunit Jain told PTI. Actor Chris Pratt is in early talks to star in the reboot of espionage thriller "The Saint". The 1997 film, directed by Phillip Noyce and starring Val Kilmer, is based on Leslie Charteris' book series. The character of Simon Templar, also known as The Saint, is a high tech thief and master of disguise that becomes the anti-hero while paradoxically living in the underworld of international industrial theft and espionage. Paramount Pictures is talking to the "Avengers: Infinity War" star for the reboot, but a deal is yet to be made, reported Vareity. The studio had secured a deal for book series rights in 2016 and has set up a producing deal with Lorenzo di Bonaventura with the goal of starting an action franchise. Ad guru Alyque Padamsee dies at 90
Veteran ad maker and theatre personality Alyque Padamsee died Saturday at the age of 90. Padamsee was the former Chief Executive of advertising firm Lintas in India and helped it to become one of the top creative agencies in the country. He later became the regional coordinator for Lintas in South Asia. He will be best remembered for iconic campaigns such as 'Lalitaji' for Surf, 'Cherry Charlie' for Cherry Blossom Shoe Polish, MRF's 'Muscle Man', the Liril girl in the waterfall and 'Hamara Bajaj' for the auto major. He also played the role of Jinnah in the Richard Attenborough's award-winning film "Gandhi" and was also awarded the Padma Shri award in 2000.
