Ed King, co-writer of Sweet Home Alabama, passes away

Former 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' guitarist Ed King, who co-wrote the band's iconic hit 'Sweet Home Alabama', has passed away at 68.According to a Facebook post shared on his account, King died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on Wednesday."It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ed King who died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on August 22nd, 2018. We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed during his life and career," read the post.According to Entertainment Weekly, 'Lynyrd Skynyrd' co-founder Gary Rossington, mourned King's demise and said, "Ed was our brother, and a great songwriter and guitar player. Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King dead at 68

Former Lynyrd Skynyrd guitarist Ed King, a Southern rock pioneer who co-wrote the hit "Sweet Home Alabama," has died, his official Facebook page account has announced. He was 68. The post yesterday said he died at home on Wednesday. It did not mention the cause, but rock music bible Rolling Stone said he had been battling lung cancer. "It is with great sorrow we announce the passing of Ed King who died at his home in Nashville, Tennessee on August 22nd, 2018," the Facebook post read. "We thank his many friends and fans for their love and support of Ed during his life and career." Odia actor Debu Bose passes away

Odia film and theatre personality Rathindra Nath Bose, popularly known as Debu Bose, passed away in a Hyderabad hospital, family sources said here today. He was 75 and is survived by wife and two sons. Bose had earlier survived two heart attacks and was undergoing treatment in Hyderabad where he died last night. Preparations are on to bring his body to Bhubaneswar, where his last rites would be performed tomorrow. Born on December 2, 1942, Bose joined in government services after completing his MA from JNU and went on to serve as the general manager (GM) of Odisha Industrial Infrastructure Development Corporation. When he was young, he had learnt Odissi classical dance from Guru Kelucharan Mohapatra and Guru Mayadhar Rout. he had also acted and directed several plays. Bose started his cinema career as a villain in Nagen Ray's 'Tapasya' in early 1980s. Till his last film 'Raasta (2014), Bose acted in over 150 films and in most of them he had played the role of a father to .

Press Club Kolkata condoles death of Kuldip Nayar

The Press Club, Kolkata mourned the death of noted journalist and author Kuldip Nayar, who passed away in New Delhi today at the age of 95. "With his demise, the country lost a journalist of high repute, seasoned political commentator and author, peace activist and an able editor with high ethical values," said a statement issued by president Snehasis Sur and secretary Kingshuk Pramanik. Members of the Press Club paid tributes to Nayar and conveyed their sincere condolences to his wife Bharati and two sons. Nayar, born in Sialkot in Pakistan in 1923, began his career in journalism in the Urdu press and went on to serve as editor of several newspapers, including Indian Express and The Statesman. The veteran journalist, a proponent of India-Pakistan peace, was arrested during the Emergency.

Bihar Guv, Nitish, Lalu condole Kuldip Nayar's death

Bihar Governor Lalji Tandon and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar today condoled the death of veteran journalist Kuldip Nayar. In his condolence message, Tandon said Nayar's demise was an "irreparable loss to the world of journalism, culture and society" and recalled the scribe's "life-long commitment to preserving national integrity, social harmony and democratic values". Kumar said the veteran journalist's death was a loss to the "literary, social and political fields" and recalled Nayar's fearless writings which landed him in jail during the Emergency but, later, also earned him laurels like nomination to the Rajya Sabha. Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi also mourned the death of Nayar, calling him "the Bhishm Pitamah of journalism" who "strongly opposed the authoritarianism of Indira Gandhi". RJD supremo Lalu Prasad also expressed grief over the death of Nayar, the news of which was conveyed to him in Mumbai by party general secretary and confidant Bhola Yadav.

Impasse ends, TV serial shooting to resume tomorrow

The deadlock between artistes and producers of TV serials over regularisation of payment ended today, with Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee giving an assurance that a committee formed with representatives from both sides will "look into the issues". Shooting for the mega soaps will resume from tomorrow, she said. "A conciliation committee, with state Youth Affairs Minister Aroop Biswas as the chairman and veteran actor Soumitra Chatterjee as chief adviser, has been constituted to look into the problems of both sides," she said. The impasse had stalled shooting of serials for six days, forcing TV channels to repeat episodes. Pakistan's new Information and Broadcasting Minister Fawad Ahmed Chaudhry today expressed grief over the death of veteran Indian journalist and author Kuldip Nayar, describing him as a "shining star" of lofty journalistic traditions. Nayar, a proponent of India-Pakistan peace process, died in New Delhi early today. He was 95. He was born in Pakistan's Sialkot in 1923.
