'Beetlejuice' musical ropes in Alex Brightman to play lead

The pre-Broadway "Beetlejuice" has found its ghost in Tony nominee Alex Brightman.The the title role was played on-screen by Michael Keaton. In addition, the show's backers, Warner Bros Theatre Ventures and Langley Park Productions, announced that Sophia Anne Caruso will co-star as Lydia, a goth teenager who forms a bond with ghosts. Winona Ryder played the part in the Tim Burton film. Alex Timbers is directing the pre-Broadway staging at the National Theatre in Washington DC with Connor Gallagher attached as choreographer, reported Variety. Performances in DC begin October 14, with an official opening on Sunday, November 4. The musical adaptation features an original score by Eddie Perfect and a book by Scott Brown & Anthony King.

'Love Sonia' to hit screens next month

Tabrez Noorani's 'Love Sonia' is all set to release in India on September 14.The film has an ensemble cast comprising Manoj Bajpayee, Richa Chadha, Rajkummar Rao, Sai Tamhankar, Adil Hussain, Demi Moore, Freida Pinto and newcomer Mrunal Thakur.Film critic Taran Adarsh announced the release date on Twitter, writing, "Release date finalised... The movie is shot in India, Hong Kong and Los Angeles.

Andhra CM directs CRDA officials to beautify Krishna River bunds

Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu has directed the officials of the Capital Region Development Authority (CRDA) to beautify Krishna river bunds downstream Prakasam Barrage in Vijayawada.The Chief Minister suggested construction of a platform and national flag at the central point of river bed and beautification of bunds on both sides. American star Aretha Franklin passes away

American singer and music royalty Aretha Franklin passed away at the age of 76 following a prolonged illness on Thursday.Franklin, who was suffering from pancreatic cancer and was in a grave condition from last few years, breathed last at her home in Detroit, confirmed Variety."In one of the darkest moments of our lives, we are not able to find the appropriate words to express the pain in our heart. Queen of Soul Aretha Franklin dies at 76

Aretha Franklin, the legendary Queen of Soul, died today at the age of 76. The representative for the veteran singer, Gwendolyn Quinn, confirmed the news that she passed away at her home in Detroit, Sky News reported. Franklin, who was suffering from pancreatic cancer, was recently reported to be "gravely ill". In her last days, she was visited by singer-musician Stevie Wonder with Beyonce and Jay Z paying tributes to her during their On The Run II tour. The singer, who performed in a gospel choir in childhood and later graduated to master other genres such as pop and soul music, rose to worldwide prominence in the 1960s.
