Nagaland set to host fourth B20 session in north-east region from April 4

Nagaland is all set to host the fourth and final event of B20 being organised in north-east region, which is the official G20 dialogue forum for the global business community. The B20 conference scheduled to be held in Kohima from April 4-6 will witness 64 overseas delegates from 29 countries, Nagaland Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio on Monday told reporters at Chumoukedima. The main Business 20 conference on Wednesday will be graced by Union Minister of State for External Affairs Dr Rajkumar Ranjan Singh, he said. Rio said his government is making elaborate arrangements, not only to showcase investment and partnership opportunities in the state but also to provide a unique experience for visiting delegates with exposure to Nagaland's culture, local cuisine, art, festivities, and scenic beauty. G20 meet will help India maximise its potential in tourism sector: Minister

The second G20 Tourism Working Group meeting is focused on projecting domestic tourism in mission mode and will help India maximise its potential in the sector, Tourism Minister G Kishan Reddy said on Sunday. The meeting, being held in Darjeeling and Siliguri in West Bengal from April 1 to 3, is being attended by more than 130 participants, including delegates of G20 members, invitee countries and international organisations, industry partners, state tourism officials and local tour operators. Speaking on the second day of the meeting, Reddy said the vision of the conference is to project domestic tourism in mission mode. "It will also make India maximise its potential in the tourism sector," he said. "The Union Ministry of Tourism has also formulated a comprehensive tourism policy with holistic flavour for a sustainable and responsible growth of the tourism sector in the country," he stated. G20 Sherpas hold deliberations in traditional attire on houseboats

Wearing traditional Kerala dress and enjoying a taste of Kerala's hospitality, G20 Sherpas held deliberations on land and water at this scenic lakeside Kerala village. While the Sherpas held meetings in the conference hall on top of a moving houseboat in the evening, other delegates from guest countries went on a cruise on the backwaters, enjoying the scenery and a hi-tea spread onboard. Three big houseboats with conference halls were arranged for the cruise of the Sherpas and delegates through Kumarakom Lake, a major tourist destination of the country. Police in separate boats escorted the guests on the two-hour long ride. The majority of the Sherpas and delegates dressed up in traditional Kerala attire before getting on the houseboats. While women delegates wore frilled skirts with zari borders and shawls, men wore the traditional mundu (also known as veshti). They were helped by employees of the event management team. Food security, climate-smart approach focus areas at G20 deputies meeting

The three-day meeting of agricultural deputies of the G20 agricultural working group culminated on Friday as delegates discussed various issues, including sustainable agriculture, food security and nutrition with a climate smart approach. Delegates from 19 member countries, 10 invited countries and 10 international organisations participated in the second agricultural deputies meeting (ADM) in Chandigarh. On the concluding day of the meeting, two consecutive sessions focused on drafting the communiqu by the member countries of G20 and was marked by elaborate discussions. G20 Science Advisers agree to work on draft document: Ajay Kumar Sood

The G20 Science Advisers' Roundtable first meeting here on Wednesday agreed to work on a draft document incorporating inputs of all participating countries. "There was agreement to work on a draft document by further refining the concept note, incorporating inputs offered by the rest of the countries over the next two or three months. It will be circulated among the participating countries so that a draft document is ready by August when we meet again in Brazil," Principal Scientific Advisor to the Government of India Ajay Kumar Sood said at a press briefing here after the first day's deliberations. G20 expert group formed for strengthening multilateral development banks

Under the aegis of India's G20 Presidency, a 11-member expert group has been set up to suggest measures to strengthen multilateral development banks (MDBs). The finance ministry in a statement said Professor Lawrence Summers ( President Emeritus, Harvard University) and N K Singh (Former Chairperson, 15th Finance Commission of India) are co-convenors of the G20 Expert Group on strengthening MDBs. The panel would work on making a road map for an updated MDB ecosystem for the 21st century, touching upon all aspects of MDB evolution, and mechanisms for coordination among such banks to address and finance global development and other challenges more effectively. The panel would also evaluate various estimates regarding the scale of funding required by and from MDBs for addressing their and member countries' increased financing needs for SDG and transboundary challenges. The expert group will submit its report to the Indian Presidency of G20 before June 30, 2023, the ministry said.
