Global cues, FII activity to guide stock markets next week, say Analysts

Stock markets would be driven by global trends and foreign investors' trading activity in the holiday-shortened week, analysts said adding that key equity indices may face volatile trends amid the monthly derivatives expiry on Thursday. This week markets will have just three trading sessions. Equity markets will remain closed on Monday for Holi and on Friday for Good Friday. "This week will be shorter due to market closure on both Monday for Holi and Friday for Good Friday. As a result, trading volumes may be lower with limited market cues. However, volatility remains a possibility as we approach the March F&O expiry and the financial year-end," Santosh Meena, Head of Research at Swastika Investmart Ltd, said. Last week, the BSE benchmark climbed 188.51 points or 0.25 per cent, and the Nifty went up by 73.4 points or 0.33 per cent. "This week being a truncated week and the derivatives' monthly expiry, we might see some volatility while Nifty is likely to consolidate at higher ...

Markets to track global trends, trading activity of investors: Analysts

Global trends and trading activity of foreign investors would largely dictate terms in the equity markets this week amid a lack of major domestic triggers, analysts said. Markets may face near-term consolidation due to elevated valuations, they noted. "While the previous week was predominantly shaped by developments in the US Federal Reserve policy, attention will now shift to the Bank of Japan's policy decision on December 19," Santosh Meena, Head of Research, Swastika Investmart Ltd, said. Additionally, factors such as crude oil prices and macroeconomic data from both the US and China will wield considerable influence on market dynamics, he added. Prashanth Tapse, Senior VP (Research), Mehta Equities Ltd, said due to overbought technical conditions, the benchmarks may consolidate in the near term. However, that said, the near-term outlook for the markets continues to be in favour of the bulls, he said. A series of positive news -- September quarter GDP growth rate of 7.6 per ce

Global shares sink after US Fed notes dent hopes of rate hikes ending

Global stocks followed Wall Street lower Thursday after notes from a US Federal Reserve meeting dented hopes interest rate hikes are finished. London, Hong Kong, Paris and Seoul declined. Shanghai and Wall Street futures advanced. Oil prices rose. Wall Street's benchmark S&P 500 lost 0.8% on Wednesday after minutes from the Fed's latest meeting suggested board members are unsure what to do after raising their key lending rate to a two-decade high. Traders had hoped the board would decide inflation was under control and last month's rate hike was the last. Fed officials face a tough balancing act between the risk of an inadvertent over-tightening of policy against the cost of an insufficient one, said Tan Boon Heng of Mizuho Bank in a report. In early trading, the FTSE 100 in London fell 0.3% to 7,332.01. The CAC 40 in Paris lost 0.4% to 7,233.00 and the DAX in Frankfurt retreated 0.3% to 15,738.25. On Wall Street, futures for the S&P 500 and the Dow Jones Industrial Average ...

Global prices down after China's weak July data, cuts key interest rate

Global stock markets declined Tuesday ahead of an update on US retail spending after China reported that an economic slump deepened in July and its central bank cut a key interest rate to shore up growth. London, Shanghai and Wall Street futures declined. Tokyo advanced. Oil prices fell. Chinese consumer and factory activity slowed more than expected in July, official data showed. The People's Bank of China cut its interest rate on one-week loans to banks. Policymakers are starting to hit the panic button, Stephen Innes of SPI Asset Management said in a report. Also Tuesday, Russia's central bank raised its main lending rate by 3.5 percentage points to 12% in an emergency move to strengthen the ruble after the currency reached its lowest value since early in the war with Ukraine. The ruble has lost one-third of its value since the start of this year. In early trading, the FTSE 100 in London fell 1.2% to 7,417.72. The CAC 40 in Paris declined 1% to 7,277.68 and the DAX in Frankfurt
