Gujarat raises MLA fund by Rs 1 cr to ₹2.5 cr with focus on water projects

The Gujarat government has increased the annual MLA local area development to Rs 2.5 crore from the existing Rs 1.5 crore. Half of the additional allocation must be spent on water conservation, an official release said on Wednesday. The chief minister has significantly increased the grant allocated to the MLAs for the development and to further enhance the established identity of Gujarat as a role model of development, it said. The existing annual grant of Rs 1.5 crore allocated to the members of legislative assembly (MLAs) for local area development has been increased by Rs 1 crore, it said. The additional funds have been earmarked with a focus on the Centre's Catch the Rain' initiative for the collection and storage of rainwater, the release said. MLAs will have to carry out works worth Rs 50 lakh from this additional grant for the Catch the Rain' campaign launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi for water conservation and rainwater harvesting, it said. Gujarat committed to becoming EV manufacturing hub, says CM Patel

Gujarat is committed to electric mobility and becoming a manufacturing hub for electric vehicles and ancillary equipment, Chief Minister Bhupendra Patel said on Saturday. The state has seen registration of over 2.64 lakh electric vehicles, while 800 e-buses are operating, he added. Addressing a gathering after inaugurating the EV manufacturing plant of Matter Energy at Changodar near here, Patel said green growth and EVs are the ways to reduce carbon footprint and face the challenge posed by climate change. Sai Infinium files draft papers with Sebi to raise funds through IPO

Sai Infinium has filed draft papers with markets regulator Sebi seeking its clearance to garner funds through an initial public offering (IPO). The Gujarat-based company's IPO is entirely a fresh issue of 1.96 crore equity shares with no offer-for sale (OFS) component, according to the draft papers filed on Wednesday. The company plans to use funds to the tune of Rs 130 crore for setting up a 17.4-MW hybrid power plant, Rs 65 crore for the purchase of a rolling mill for mild steel (MS) structures, Rs 19 crore for buying a cargo vessel for the ship breaking plant and the remaining funds will be used for the company's general corporate purposes. Sai Infinium operates in three primary segments, manufacturing of MS (Mild Steel)billets and TMT (Thermo Mechanically Treated) bars, ship breaking and real estate in Gujarat. Police nabs Gujarat firecracker godown's owner where blast-fire killed 21

Police on Tuesday arrested the owner of a godown near Deesa town in Gujarat's Banaskantha district, hours after a powerful blast and fire killed 21 persons there, officials said. Firecrackers were allegedly stored and manufactured illegally at the godown, they said. Deepak Mohnani, who owns the godown, was arrested by a team of Banaskantha police from neighbouring Sabarkantha district on Tuesday night, Inspector General of Border Range Chirag Koradia said. "We have arrested the main accused, Deepak Mohnani from a place in Sabarkantha," the Range IG told PTI. The warehouse - Deepak Traders - was owned by Deepak and his father Khubchand Mohnani, officials earlier said. The explosion, which occurred approximately at 9.45 am, flattened the godown in an industrial area near Deesa town, around 30 km from the Banaskantha district headquarters.
