Ethanol-blended petrol is likely to be available in the country from December or January, ahead of the April 2023 target, Union Petroleum and Natural Gas Minister Hardeep Singh Puri said on Friday. "We are constantly reviewing the ethanol production and I believe, 20 per cent blended fuel would come in the market in December or January ahead of April 2023 (target)," he told reporters here. Citing the example of Brazil where flex-fuel vehicles are available and the consumer can take ethanol or petrol as per choice, he said that this will be the ultimate goal of the government. However, to reach that stage, certain technical aspects are there and work is going on. "We are going to hold a major meeting with automobile manufacturers on ethanol blending," he said. India has advanced the target date for achieving 20 per cent ethanol-blending in petrol by five years to 2025. The minister also said that for the targeted 20 per cent blending of ethanol in petrol, the country will need a 1,

Petroleum Minister Hardeep Singh Puri on Saturday said the Centre has not taken any decision to set up an oil refinery project in any specific area in Maharashtra. Speaking to reporters in Chandrapur, he said the state government will have to discuss the project's location with the Central government. He alleged the erstwhile government (in Maharashtra) had allocated land for the project but later refused under the pretext of changing the location, which derailed the project. "Following this, the state (Maharashtra) and the country faced huge economic losses in the last two-and-a-half years," Puri alleged. Puri was apparently referring to the Ratnagiri Refinery and Petrochemical project, proposed to be built at Nanar village in Ratnagiri district in coastal Konkan, but it was scrapped before the 2019 polls at the insistence of Shiv Sena, the then alliance partner of BJP. India's crude oil production fell 3.8 per cent in July on lower output from fields operated by state-owned ONGC and private sector firms, government data released on Tuesday showed. Production of crude oil, which is refined to produce fuels such as petrol and diesel, fell to 2.45 million tonnes in July from 2.54 million tonnes a year back. Mariam, a Rohingya Muslim who lives in a squalid Delhi locality, was happy she and her daughter would get to live in a pucca house for the first time in a decade. A tweet by Union minister Hardeep Singh Puri had raised her hopes, but a quick clarification by the Home Ministry meant the hope of getting a roof over her head in a faraway land was short-lived. "We don't know why the Government of India changed their decision. The only thing I was happy about was that, my daughter and I would be living in a pucca building for the first time after a decade," the 35-year-old, living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj, told PTI. A section of the refugees living in Delhi's Kalindi Kunj has been apprehensive about their deportation in an "unfair" manner, after the Ministry of Home Affairs directed the Delhi government to declare the camps of the Rohingyas in Delhi as detention centres.
