Twitter usage largely mirrors daily work schedules and school calendars, an analysis of data on the social networking site from the US shows. The data reflects the amount of "social jet lag" caused when social demands make people wake up much earlier than their biological rhythms would prefer, said researchers from the University of Chicago in the US. The study, published in the journal Current Biology, analysed the Twitter activity of more than 246,000 users from 2012 to 2013 to look for daily patterns of usage. The tweets were tagged with geographic location data from more than 1,500 counties in all 50 states and the District of Columbia. The data serve as a proxy for people's sleep and wake times, a public record of sorts that shows when someone is awake and still using Twitter. It is well known that second hand smoke from cigarettes is a risk to anyone who suffers from asthma. But a new research showed that it's possible for both children and adults with uncontrolled asthma to find their symptoms worsening due to cannabis allergy and exposure to marijuana smoke.A new research, conducted at the American College of Allergy, Asthma, and Immunology, analysed the livelihood of people smoking marijuana and how it affects the health of people around them."A 6-year-old boy suffering from severe asthma had family members who frequently smoked marijuana in the house," said Bryce Hoffman, lead author of the study. It was not clear why his asthma was so severe and not responding to aggressive asthma therapies until we determined he was allergic to cannabis. After the cannabis was removed from the house, his asthma improved."In addition .
Suffering from severe eczema? It may best be treated by allergy shots, according to researchers.A medically-challenging case being presented at the American College of Allergy, Asthma and Immunology (ACAAI) Annual Scientific Meeting found that allergy shots provided significant benefits to the eczema symptoms suffered by a 48-year-old man."The man had suffered with severe eczema since childhood," said allergist Anil Nanda, lead author of the paper. "He had tried many previous therapies for years including mild and high strength topical corticosteroid cream, as well as other topical anti-inflammatory creams and topical moisturizer creams. Biologic therapy has been available to treat eczema for about a year and-a-half but was not yet a treatment option at the time we saw this man. We thought allergy shots might be beneficial because he also had multiple allergies."Atopic dermatitis is an allergic disease, and patients who have it often also have other types of allergies. According to previous researches, anti-malaria drugs known as chloroquines were repurposed to treat cancer for decades, but until now no one knew exactly what the chloroquines were targeting when they attack a tumor. Now, researchers from the University of Pennsylvania explained that an enzyme called PPT1 - opens up a new pathway for potential cancer treatments. The findings appeared in the Journal of Cancer Discovery. The team also used CRISPR/Cas9 gene editing to remove PPT1 from cancer cells in the lab and found that eliminating it slows tumor growth. They detailed a potent chloroquine, known as DC661, that can take advantage of this new treatment pathway."The discovery of this target is critical because chloroquines are currently being evaluated in clinical trials all over the world, and this knowledge fundamentally changes the way we look at those trials," said the study's co-senior author Ravi K.
