The Prime Minister's Office (PMO) is monitoring the medical treatment being given to Goa Chief Minister Manohar Parrikar at Mumbai's Lilavati Hospital, where he has been admitted since February 15, the Deputy Speaker of the state Assembly, Michael Lobo, said here today. "The PMO is monitoring the treatment. He (Parrikar) is being given the best of the medical treatment and he is recovering," Lobo said. Prime Minister Narendra Modi had visited Parrikar at the hospital yesterday during his Mumbai visit. Parrikar was admitted to the Mumbai hospital after an initial check-up in Goa as he complained of stomach pains. According to the doctors at the Lilavati Hospital, he is suffering from pancreatitis.

Nurses beat up doctor over harassment in Sindh

In an unusual event, nurses at a civil hospital in Pakistan's Sindh province have badly beaten up a doctor after accusing him of sexual harassment, a charge denied by the physician who said it was a conspiracy to defame him and get him removed from the hospital. The nurses at the training center in Mirpurkhas aided by some men staff got hold of Dr. Ramesh Kumar last evening and thrashed him which left him bleeding, police said. "He was rescued by some other doctors who took him away for treatment," a police officer said. "We have recorded his statement and are investigating the matter," he said. "The nurses claim he not only tried to sexually harass them but also sent them lewd messages and they could not tolerate it any longer," he added. The Serious Fraud Investigation Office (SFIO) will probe alleged financial irregularities at Fortis Healthcare and Religare Enterprises, according to senior officials. The corporate affairs ministry has been looking into the affairs of Fortis and Religare after recent reports that financial irregularities have been found at the two companies. Excess levels of calcium in brain cells may lead to the formation of toxic clusters that are the hallmark of Parkinson's disease, according to a study. Researchers led by the University of Cambridge in the UK found that calcium can mediate the interaction between small membranous structures inside nerve endings, which are important for neuronal signalling in the brain, and alpha-synuclein, the protein associated with Parkinson's disease. Excess levels of either calcium or alpha-synuclein may be what starts the chain reaction that leads to the death of brain cells. The findings, published in the journal Nature Communications, represent another step towards understanding how and why people develop Parkinson's. Samsung to set up 15 Smart Healthcare centres in TN

: Korean electronic major Samsung has inked a partnership with the Government of Tamil Nadu for setting up 15 Smart Healthcare centres in the State. Under the initiative, Samsung would provide advanced healthcare equipment like digital ultrasound, x-ray machines, apart from LED TV, air conditioner and refrigerators to select government hospitals, a press release said. A memorandum of understanding was signed between Samsung India and Department of Medical, Health and Family Welfare, Government of Tamil Nadu in November 2017.
