Looking at the growth prospects, we are expecting to clock Rs 100 crore revenues by 2021," Setu Wellness CEO Nihaal Mariwala told PTI here. Prior studies of survivors of the 2014-2016 Ebola outbreak in West Africa have revealed sexual transmission of Ebola virus, and that viral RNA (Ebola virus genetic material) can persist in semen following recovery. While little is known about viral persistence in female reproductive tissues, pregnant women with Ebola virus disease have a maternal death rate of more than 80 per cent and a foetal death rate of nearly 100 per cent. Researchers from The National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases in the US infected four female and eight male macaques with the Makona variant of Ebola virus, the variant responsible for the recent West Africa outbreak. Fortis Healthcare shares soar 24.5% on merger buzz
Shares of Fortis Healthcare jumped 24.5 per cent today amid reports that Manipal hospital, backed by TPG, is in advanced talks to merge the company with itself. The stock erased its early losses and soared 24.54 per cent to Rs 157.05 on BSE during the afternoon trade. At NSE, shares of the company zoomed 24.31 per cent to Rs 156.70. Scientists have identified a drug that could potentially help our brains reboot and reverse the damage caused by heavy alcohol consumption. Research in mice show that two weeks of daily treatment with the drug tandospirone reversed the effects of 15 weeks of binge-like alcohol consumption on neurogenesis - the ability of the brain to grow and replace neurons (brain cells). This is the first time tandospirone has been shown to reverse the deficit in brain neurogenesis induced by heavy alcohol consumption. Tandospirone acts selectively on a serotonin receptor, according to the research published in the journal Scientific Reports. The researchers also showed in mice that the drug was effective in stopping anxiety-like behaviours associated with alcohol withdrawal, and this was accompanied by a significant decrease in binge-like alcohol intake. Drug firm Jubilant Life Sciences today said its subsidiary has received final approval from the US health regulator for Amantadine Hydrochloride tablets, an anti-viral and anti-Parkinsons drug. The approved drug, generic version of Symmetrel of Endo, is indicated for the prophylaxis and treatment of signs and symptoms of infection caused by various strains of influenza A virus. It is also indicated in the treatment of Parkinsonism and drug-induced extrapyramidal reactions. "Jubilant Pharma Ltd, a material wholly owned subsidiary of the company, through one of its wholly owned subsidiaries, has received abbreviated new drug application (ANDA) final approval for Amantadine Hydrochloride tablets, 100 mg," Jubilant Life Sciences said in a BSE filing. This is the ninth approval received by the company from the USFDA during the current financial year. 'Undernourished kids more likely to suffer from hearing loss'
Children who are undernourished during preschool years are more likely to suffer from hearing impairment later in life, a study has found. Hearing loss is the fourth leading cause of disability worldwide, and an estimated 80 per cent of affected individuals live in low-and middle-income countries, researchers said. The study, published in the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition, analysed the relationship between the hearing of more than 2,200 young adults and their nutritional levels as children 16 years earlier. "Our findings should help elevate hearing loss as a still-neglected public health burden, and one that nutrition interventions in early childhood might help prevent," said Keith West from the Johns Hopkins University Bloomberg School of Public Health in the US. Results of the auditory tests show that young adults who were stunted in childhood were nearly twice as likely to show signs of hearing loss.
