PIL filed in Supreme Court over multiple bridge collapse incidents in Bihar

A PIL has been filed in the Supreme Court seeking directions to the Bihar government to undertake a structural audit and set up an expert committee to identify bridges that can be either strengthened or demolished based on the findings. Boosting manpower and equipment deployment to address waterlogging and keeping field units on high alert are among the steps taken by civic bodies amid a prediction of heavy rains in Delhi till Tuesday. The national capital was brought to its knees on Friday morning as 228.1 mm of rainfall on the first day of monsoon, the highest for the month of June since 1936, submerged several parts of the city and claimed multiple lives. The Uttar Pradesh government has suspended six officials of civic agencies for gross negligence following road cave-ins and waterlogging at several sections of the newly-built Ram Path in Ayodhya. The newly-elected Lok Sabha MP from Faizabad, -Awadhesh Prasad, on Saturday demanded a high-level inquiry into the alleged irregularities in the construction of the 14-km-long Ram Path and the sewer lines beneath the road in Ayodhya. About 15 bylanes and streets along the Ram Path were flooded after rains on June 23 and June 25. Even homes along the road went underwater. Portions of the 14-kilometre road stretch also caved in at more than a dozen places. Delhi LG inspects city's worst-hit areas, drains after heavy rains

Delhi Lieutenant Governor V K Saxena inspected the city's most severely affected areas and drainage systems to assess the damage caused by heavy rains, an official statement said on Saturday. Urban Development minister Saurabh Bharadwaj also visited East Kidwai Nagar and Golf Links to inspect the areas and resolve waterlogging issues despite these falling under the Central government-controlled NDMC, the Delhi government said in a statement. Bengal govt issues alert for northern districts after heavy rain in Sikkim

Following incessant rainfall causing devastation in neighbouring Sikkim resulting in overflowing of the Teesta river, the West Bengal Irrigation department issued an alert for the northern districts of the state, an official said on Friday. Heavy rains lash Maharashtra's Thane, Palghar, waterlogging in some areas

Thane and Palghar districts of Maharashtra witnessed heavy rains overnight, leading to water-logging in some areas, officials said on Sunday. There were reports of tree branches falling in some areas of Thane city, they said. In the 24-hour period ending at 8.30 am on Sunday, Thane city received 37.06 mm rainfall. The maximum downpour of 16.76 mm was recorded between 12.30 am and 1.30 am on Sunday while 10.93 mm rain was witnessed between 3.30 and 4.30 am, Thane Municipal Corporation's disaster management cell chief Yasin Tadvi said. Some areas in Thane witnessed water-logging due to the showers, an official at the district disaster control room said. Manipur: Over 188K affected by floods, more than 24,000 houses damaged

A total of 1,88,143 people have been affected by floods in Manipur following incessant rainfall in the aftermath of Cyclone Remal, a state minister said on Thursday. It has also damaged at least 24,265 houses in the last few days, he said. Altogether 18,103 people have been evacuated and 56 relief camps were set up, Minister for Water Resources and Relief & Disaster Management Awangbou Newmai informed. In a post on Facebook, he said: "Held a brief meeting with Additional Chief Secretary, Deputy Commissioner Imphal West & East, Directorate Relief and Disaster Management to review the flood situation, and strategising for immediate action on relief, search and rescue operations."
