Heavy rains hit Mumbai; low-lying areas flooded, local trains disrupted

Heavy downpour pummelled Mumbai and its suburbs, with some parts recording more than 200 mm rainfall in the wee hours of Saturday, inundating low-lying areas and affecting the movement of local trains. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall in the metropolis for two days. Delhi Police files case in collapse of dargah structure near Humayun's Tomb

The Delhi Police has registered a case after six people were killed in a wall and roof collapse of a dargah near Humayun's Tomb in Delhi's Nizamuddin, an official said on Saturday. The incident happened at Dargah Sharif Patte Shah around 3:30 pm on August 15. The dargah shares its boundary walls with the 16th-century garden-tomb commissioned by Mughal emperor Humayun's first wife Bega Begum in 1558. A senior police officer said a case under section 290 (negligent conduct with respect to pulling down, repairing or constructing buildings), 125 (acts that endanger human life or personal safety), and 106 (causing death by negligence) has been registered against unknown people. J-K authorities identify 21 of 46 bodies from Kishtwar cloudburst

Authorities in Jammu and Kashmir have identified 21 bodies of the 46 that were retrieved from the cloudburst-hit Chisoti village in Kishtwar district, officials said on Friday. A massive flash flood triggered by a cloudburst struck the remote mountain village in Kishtwar on Thursday, killing at least 46 people, including two CISF personnel. To identify the deceased, the authorities shared victims' pictures through a WhatsApp group with the affected families, resulting in identification of 21 out of the 46 bodies retrieved, they said. Over 160 people have been rescued so far, and the condition of 38 among them is said to be serious. The officials have said that the death toll could go up as more people are believed to be trapped. Schools shut in 5 districts in Telangana following heavy rain forecast

The Telangana government has declared a half day holiday in Hyderabad and full holiday in Warangal and other districts on August 13 and 14 for all government and private schools in view of the IMD forecast of very heavy to extremely heavy rainfall in isolated places.
