Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren inaugurated and laid the foundation stone for 188 projects worth a total of Rs 800 crore. He also distributed agricultural assets to beneficiaries of various government schemes. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren demanded a hike in royalty on coal at a meeting with a team from the NITI Aayog, officials said on Thursday. At the meeting, he also raised the issue of the release of compensation for land acquisition, which he said was pending with different coal companies. An eight-member team of NITI Aayog, led by its member Vinod Kumar Paul, is on a visit to the state to review its progress on various aspects. It held a meeting with the chief minister at the state secretariat on Wednesday. Soren said compensation of about Rs 80,000 crore is due with different coal companies against land acquisition, and only Rs 2,532 crore has been given. "Coal companies should pay compensation for the land they have acquired, even if mining work has not started on it," he said. The Jharkhand government has decided to provide at least two fruit bearing trees to PDS card holders and beneficiaries of different schemes in the state in a bid to augment villagers' income and push its environment protection initiative, officials said on Friday. Chief Minister Hemant Soren, who reviewed the progress of various government schemes on Friday at a meeting, asked the deputy commissioners of all districts to ensure that all the card holders and beneficiaries of different schemes are provided with at least two fruit bearing trees. This will not only increase the income of the villagers, but will also be a step towards environmental protection, he said. Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Sunday alleged that the withdrawal of the Rs 2,000 currency note from circulation was a "political decision" similar to demonetisation. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday announced the withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes, stating that the existing notes in circulation can either be deposited in bank accounts or exchanged by September 30. "This (withdrawal of Rs 2,000 currency notes) was a purely political decision like the 2016 demonetisation to protect their (BJP's) political identity but they stand exposed before the masses. Unfortunately, the life span of the Rs 2,000 currency note was just six to seven years," he said at an event here. Soren launches TCIL's Rs 2,000 crore expansion project in Jamshedpur

Jharkhand Chief Minister Hemant Soren on Monday performed the groundbreaking rituals for Tata Group firm Tinplate Company of India Ltd's (TCIL) Rs 2,000-crore expansion project in Jamshedpur. Addressing the programme, Soren said that after the state industrial policy was unveiled two years ago, several investors have shown keen interest to invest in the state, and the TCIL project is one such. The expansion project will create about 1,000 new jobs directly, and over 5,000 indirectly, he said. The Jharkhand unit of BJP will stage an agitation on April 11 against the Hemant Soren government over unemployment, corruption and "deteriorating" law and order situation in the state, a senior leader said on Sunday. Jharkhand BJP chief Deepak Prakash said that people from 32,000 villages of the state will respond to the 'Chalo Ranchi' slogan and stage a massive stir in front of the secretariat in the state capital. "Public anger is rising over the ruling dispensation's unfulfilled poll promise of 2019 to generate employment. Jharkhand govt tables Rs 1.16 trillion budget for FY24 in assembly

The Jharkhand government on Friday tabled a Rs 1.16 lakh crore budget for the 2023-24 fiscal in the assembly. The budgetary estimates for FY24 were 15 per cent higher than the previous annual financial statement. The Hemant Soren government had presented a budget of Rs 1.01 lakh crore for the financial year 2022-23. "I lay on the table of the House a budget of Rs 1,16,418 crore for the financial year 2023-24," Finance Minister Rameshwar Oraon said in the House. Members of the opposition BJP and AJSU Party staged a walk-out of the assembly during the budget speech by the state finance minister. Soren becomes first J'khand CM to visit former Maoist hotbed 'Budha Pahad'

Hemant Soren on Friday became the first Jharkhand chief minister to visit the Budha Pahad' once a Maoist hotbed that was freed from the red rebels' control by security forces after over three decades situated near the border with Chhattisgarh, officials said. Soren arrived at the hilltop a little after noon, where the CRPF has now set up a camp, they said. He is expected to launch a slew of welfare schemes in Budha Pahad', located around 150 km from state capital Ranchi, along the Latehar and Garhwa districts. Security forces managed to free the area from the grip of Maoists through three special operations that were launched since the beginning of April 2022.
