Gold coins of 12th century found during road construction in Chhattisgarh
A labourer found a pot filled with gold and silver coins at a road construction site in Chhattisgarh's Kondagaon district.Gold coins belonging to the 12th century were unearthed during the road construction.District Collector Neelkanth Tekam said, "Prima facie, these are gold and silver coins. A pot containing 57 gold coins, a silver coin and a gold earring was unearthed during the construction of a road between Korkoti and Bedma villages.""We will make arrangements for its preservation. Archaeological department will be able to give more information," Tekam added.
2nd National Tourism Conclave organised in Rajasthan
The 2nd National Tourism Conclave was today organised in Jaipur as top officials of the state tourism department said a number of "pro-tourism" projects being executed in the state would give a major boost to the sector. Tourism in Rajasthan is set for taking a "giant leap forward" with several initiatives being taken by the state government, Managing Director of Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) Haulianlal Guite said. France moves to cut access to overcrowded Mont Blanc
French authorities said today that they would curtail climbers' access to Mont Blanc for at least a week due to severe overcrowding on Europe's highest peak. The government's top official in the Haute-Savoie region said the order, which applies to the highly popular "Royal Route" starting tomorrow, was required because of "very serious risks to public order" in terms of security and pollution. Prime Minister Narendra Modi today said the ASI's decision to allow photography inside protected monuments would enable more people to see their photos and prompt them to plan their visits to these historical sites. The Archaeological Survey of India yesterday issued orders to allow photography within the premises of centrally protected monuments, hours after Modi questioned the logic behind existing restrictions on phot0graphy. "More Indians should venture out, visit our archaeological treasures and come back with cherished memories. This decision also means more people can see photos of our beautiful historical sites and plan their trips," the prime minister said in a tweet. Mamata Banerjee to flag off Kolkata Rathyatra
West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee will flag off this year's 47th Kolkata Rathyatra on Saturday, an ISKCON official today said. The Rathayatra, organised by the International Society for Krishna Consciousness (ISKCON), since 1971, is expected to attract over lakhs of devotees who will pull the chariots of deities of Lord Jagannath, Balaram and Subhadra on the occasion. A video purportedly showing some villagers crossing a canal using its floodgates with their children in Gujarat's Kheda district has come to the fore. After the clip became viral on social media yesterday, Kheda district collector directed the officials concerned to immediately start the construction of a causeway on a ravine connecting Naika and Bherai village of the district. A hand-written, original map of Winnie the Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood was today auctioned for a whopping USD 570,000, smashing all previous world records for a book illustration. Carved by E H Shepherd, the drawing of the map which appears inside the cover of A A Milne's beloved book 'Winnie-the-Pooh', was sold by the renowned auction house Sotheby's. "The original drawing of Winnie-the-Pooh's Hundred Acre Wood sells for 430,000 pounds (USD 570,027) to set new record for any book illustration sold at auction," Sotheby's tweeted. The auction house described the 1926 drawing, which was unseen for 50 years, as "possibly the most famous map in children's literature."
