In its latest offering, the railways will run a special train named after Lord Ram covering the destinations associated with the mythological character in India and Sri Lanka, an official statement said. The 'Shri Ramayana Express', which can carry 800 passengers, will start its service from November 14. The train will be flagged off from Safdarjung railway station in Delhi, it said. The special tourist train will offer a 16-day tour package--one in India and the other in Sri Lanka. The Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC) will manage the tour, the statement said. After leaving Delhi, the train will make its first stop at Ayodhya followed by Hanuman Garhi Ramkot and Kanak Bhawan temple. The train will then cover the important destinations of Ramayana circuit such as Nandigram, Sitamarhi, Janakpur, Varanasi, Prayag, Shringverpur, Chitrakoot, Nasik, Hampi and Rameshwaram, it said. The Ministry of Tourism has approved Rs 50 crore under the 'PRASAD' scheme for further development at Chintpurni Devi temple in Una district, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said here today. The Pilgrimage Rejuvenation and Spiritual Augmentation Drive (PRASAD) is the Union Tourism Ministry's flagship programme for holistic development of selected pilgrimage destinations across the country. The Railway's catering arm IRCTC has ordered an enquiry into a complaint by a passenger of the 12246 Yeswantpur-Howrah Duronto Express about the quality of food served to him in the train, an IRCTC official said here today. IRCTC Group General Manager (east zone) Debasish Chanda said that there were, however, tweets by at least 23 passengers travelling by the same train that reached Howrah last evening stating that the quality and taste of the food served to them were good. "The gentleman may not have liked the taste, but the food served to him was definitely not stale," Chanda said. He said that despite that, an enquiry was ordered immediately after the complaint was lodged yesterday. France's consumer fraud agency confirmed Monday that 70,000 hectolitres -- the equivalent of 10 million bottles -- of Spanish rose were falsely labelled as French vintages by hundreds of producers in 2016 and 2017. A scheme to provide free SIM cards to foreign tourists arriving in India to help meet their communication needs has been "discontinued" as it was felt "unnecessary", tourism secretary Rashmi Verma said today. Under the scheme, foreign tourists availing e-visas were provided pre-activated free SIM cards on arrival in India. The scheme was launched in February last year by the then tourism minister Mahesh Sharma. "It has been discontinued as it was felt not necessary to do so," Verma said. She said foreign tourists uses social media apps and and Wi-Fi facility is also available in most places including at the airports. The BSNL SIM cards came with talk time of Rs 50 and 50 MB data. The facility was started to help foreign tourists remain connected for the time period their own SIM cards were activated after landing in India.
