Around 345 passengers travelled for free on the loss-making luxury tourist trains in Rajasthan during 2012 to 2017, an official said today. In an answer to a question raised by MLA Jogaram Patel in the Assembly today, the Rajasthan Tourism department said, "around 289 passengers, including 219 recommended by the Indian Railways and 70 by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) travelled on complementary tickets on Palace on Wheels during 2012-13 and 2016-17". " During the same period, a total of 56 passengers, including 33 recommended by the RTDC and 23 by the Indian Railways, travelled on Royal Rajasthan on Wheels," the department said. The Indian Army on Tuesday rescued five foreign tourists, from Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg, who had strayed from their skiing routes and lost their way.One Dutch, one American and three British were rescued by the Indian Army, said an official press release issued by Indian Army's Northern Command.According to the statement, the group started skiing at around 1 pm from Apharwat, Gondola Phase II and got deviated from the original route. They skied and trekked for hours but in absence of the guide were lost and not able to find their route back to their hotel. After hours of walking, they finally reached close to an Army Camp at around 9.30 pm in a bad state and were totally exhausted.The statement further said that the army extended every possible way to help the tourists.

A major train mishap was averted on Tuesday after official patrolling railways tracks in Bihar's Khagaria district detected a damaged track and alerted the train driver just before the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express was to pass through the area.The official placed a detonator and ran with a banner flag to stop the train.The train proceeded after the fractured railway track was repaired by engineering staff of the railways.The incident took place at around 8 a.m. this morning.
