Over 340 passengers take luxury trains for free
Around 345 passengers travelled for free on the loss-making luxury tourist trains in Rajasthan during 2012 to 2017, an official said today. In an answer to a question raised by MLA Jogaram Patel in the Assembly today, the Rajasthan Tourism department said, "around 289 passengers, including 219 recommended by the Indian Railways and 70 by the Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) travelled on complementary tickets on Palace on Wheels during 2012-13 and 2016-17". " During the same period, a total of 56 passengers, including 33 recommended by the RTDC and 23 by the Indian Railways, travelled on Royal Rajasthan on Wheels," the department said. Palace on Wheels (POW) and Royal Rajasthan on Wheels (RROW) are luxury tourist trains which cover popular sites in Rajasthan. The third edition of the JaipurPhoto festival takes inspiration from the classic 1966 song 'Homeward Bound', highlighting the importance and idea of home in a person's life. On the occasion of Valentine's Day, the sea beach at Odisha's Puri has been turned into a beautiful spot for tourists.Sand artist Manas Sahoo, has built a sand sculpture called 'Selfie Point' with a different concept and innovative mindset on the sea beach of Puri.In the form of sand art, the artist wrote 'I love India' with an expectation of people across the country visiting the place.Sahoo has built this structure on the occasion of V Day with the message of eternal love for our country.The art has been completely made with the European style and can be rarely seen in the country.The art is built with 25 tonnes of sand and is 17" feet in width. It took at least 30 hours for Sahoo and the students to complete it.

Renowned sand artist Sudarsan Pattnaik today created 108 sand Shiva Lingas at Puri beach on the occasion of 'Maha Shivaratri'. While each Shiva Linga is about 2 feet high, there is also a 5 feet high idol of Lord Shiva. "We pray to Lord Shiva for World peace", said Sudarsan who participated in over 50 international sand art championships and won many prizes. Students of his sand art institute also joined hands with him to complete this sculpture. Pilgrims and tourists from different parts of the country witnessed the sand Shiv Lingas.
Army rescues 5 foreign tourists in Gulmarg
The Indian Army on Tuesday rescued five foreign tourists, from Jammu and Kashmir's Gulmarg, who had strayed from their skiing routes and lost their way.One Dutch, one American and three British were rescued by the Indian Army, said an official press release issued by Indian Army's Northern Command.According to the statement, the group started skiing at around 1 pm from Apharwat, Gondola Phase II and got deviated from the original route. They skied and trekked for hours but in absence of the guide were lost and not able to find their route back to their hotel. After hours of walking, they finally reached close to an Army Camp at around 9.30 pm in a bad state and were totally exhausted.The statement further said that the army extended every possible way to help the tourists.

Train mishap averted in Bihar
A major train mishap was averted on Tuesday after official patrolling railways tracks in Bihar's Khagaria district detected a damaged track and alerted the train driver just before the New Delhi-Dibrugarh Rajdhani Express was to pass through the area.The official placed a detonator and ran with a banner flag to stop the train.The train proceeded after the fractured railway track was repaired by engineering staff of the railways.The incident took place at around 8 a.m. this morning.

Ajgaonkar's remarks not good for Goa tourism: Sena
The Shiv Sena today said minister Manohar Ajgaonkar's controversial remarks about visitors to Goa did not augur well for the tourism industry which was the key revenue earner for the coastal state. Goa Tourism Minister Ajgaonkar's remarks in which he threatened to "chase away" tourists who defied Goan culture reflected his "arrogance", Shiv Sena's Goa spokesperson Rakhi Prabhudesai Naik said.
