Marvel co-creator Stan Lee passes away

The co-creator of Marvel comics, Stan Lee, has died at the age of 95.Quoting Lee's daughter, J.C., TMZ reported that an ambulance was rushed to his Hollywood Hills home on Monday morning (local time), following which he was taken to the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center in Los Angeles, where he breathed his last.The creator of Black Panther, Spider-Man, Iron Man, The Avengers and The Incredible Hulk amongst an array of well-loved superheroes, Lee had started Marvel comics with Jack Kirby in 1961 with 'Fantastic Four'. He also made cameo appearances in all of the Marvel movies.He had suffered major medical ailments over the last year. Lee is survived by his daughter. His wife, Joan, died in 2017.

PM Modi arrives at Ananth Kumar's residence to pay tributes

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday arrived at the residence of former Union Minister Ananth Kumar here to pay his tributes. The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader passed away in a Bengaluru hospital earlier today.The 59-year-old held charge of two key ministries in the Union Cabinet - the Ministry of Chemicals and Fertilizers and the Ministry of Parliamentary Affairs. Martyred soldier's last rites held with state honours

The last rites of an Army soldier from Nashik district, killed in Jammu and Kashmir, were performed with full state honours at his native place near here late Monday evening. Naik Keshav Somgir Gosavi (29) was killed Sunday by a Pakistani sniper along the LoC in Rajouri district of the militancy-affected state. The 29-year-old soldier's mortal remains were brought here Monday in an aircraft from New Delhi, official sources said. The plane carrying his body landed at the Ojhar airport here from where it was taken to his native place in an Army vehicle for last rites, they said. Gosavi hailed from Shrirampur village near here in North Maharashtra, where his last rites were held with full state honours. Man kills owl for black magic to attract woman he liked in outer Delhi: Police

A 40-year-old man allegedly brutally killed a barn owl to perform black magic in order to attract a woman he liked in outer Delhi's Sultanpuri, police said Monday. The accused, identified as Kanhaya, 40, a truck driver, was arrested on November 11 after police got a tip-off from the Animal Welfare Board Of India (AWBI) about him, they said. A raid was conducted and police found the owl's carcass in a cooler in his house, said a senior police official, adding that the accused has been evasive during questioning and has been saying different things. However, he showed police a Youtube video, which detailed the process of sacrificing an owl and the 'tantric' rituals that had to be followed while performing it to that you could hypnotise the person you wanted to. Around 50 cops hurt as auditorium roof collapses in Kannur

Around 50 police personnel were injured Monday when the roof of an auditorium in a beach resort here collapsed during a camp for them. The police personnel were taking part in a study camp organised at the resort by the district committee of a police association. Faulty construction was suspected to be the cause of the mishap, the police said. Three of the injured were admitted to a hospital in neighbouring Mangaluru while the others with minor wounds were treated as outpatients at a local hospital, they said. A case was registered against the owner of the resort, they added.

HP police to recruit 1,000 police personnel soon: Jai Ram Thakur

The Himachal Pradesh police will recruit 1,000 personnel soon, Chief Minister Jai Ram Thakur said on Monday, while presiding over the closing ceremony of 50th HP Police Sports Meet held at Dharamshala in Kangra district. Thakur announced establishment of Police Housing Corporation and said Rs 50 crore would be provided for it. He said the state has "challenging topography" and that policing is more difficult here compared to other states. Noted linguist Pramod Bhattacharya passes away

Eminent linguist, folklorist and academician Dr Pramod Bhattacharya died on Monday following a prolonged illness at a local hospital here, family sources said here. He was 94 and is survived by four sons. A linguist of repute, Bhattacharya took special initiative to develop and encourage Bodo language and literature and also carried out widespread research on Indo-Tibetan languages. Bhattacharya was also a former principal of B Barooah College here. Dr Debabhuson Borah gets Munin Barkotoki Literary Award

The prestigious Munin Barkotoki Literary Award 2018 in Assam has been given to young writer-critic Dr Debabhuson Borah for his book on literary criticism titled 'Nirbochon'. 1 killed in sugar mill accident

A 52-year-old labourer was killed and three others were injured when chemicals accidentally fell on them at a sugar mill in Uttar Pradesh's Bijnor district on Monday, police said. The incident took place in the morning at the Avadh sugar mill in Seohara. Shravjit died on the spot, while three others received burns, a police officer said. The injured have been admitted to a primary health centre, the officer said, adding that the crushing for this season had just got off in the mill on Saturday. The manager of the mill, Sukhbir Singh, termed the incident a "mishap".

Five dogs found dead at care centre in Maharashtra

At least five dogs lodged at a care centre here in Maharashtra died due to alleged negligence of those managing the centre, police said Monday. A member of a local NGO, working for the welfare of animals, went to the centre last week and found the five canines dead following which he approached the police, Manickpur police station's assistant police inspector Asif Baig said. The animal centre, located in Vasai area, is run by a private organisation and houses stray dogs in need of care and medical treatment, he said. After the NGO member approached the police, carcasses of three dogs were recovered and sent for postmortem, he said. "We are waiting for the medical report after which necessary action will be taken," Baig said. He said it appears that the care centre's staff might have been on leave last week during the Diwali festival time.
