Mountains galore as 2019 Tour de France route unveiled
Tour de France organisers threw down the gauntlet to the climbing specialists when they unveiled the "the highest Tour in history" for a 2019 edition featuring a record 30 mountain passes and five summit finishes on Thursday. With a nod to Belgian legend Eddy Merckx, the 2019 Tour begins in Brussels on July 6 and ends 3,460km later on the Champs Elysees in Paris on July 28, the opening and closing stages about as flat as it gets on the 106th edition. After Belgium, the Tour heads into the hilly Massive Central region, then down to the Pyrenees before culminating with three consecutive days in the Alps between stages 18-20. Fans with a taste for classic climbs will not be disappointed, with the Tourmalet, La Planche des Belles Filles, the Col d'Izoard, the Col du Galibier and the Montee de Tignes all on a menu featuring a record 30 mountain passes and five summit finishes. Nine-year-old sniffer dog dies
A nine-year-old sniffer dog, which was instrumental in solving many theft and narcotic cases, died here Thursday, police said. A labrador retriever breed, Diana was serving the police team for the last eight years and died due to age related ailments, they said. It was buried on the premises of the office of the City Police Commissioner with full police honours, police added.

"Friends" star David Schwimmer has made a parody video to make it clear that he was not the person who robbed a shop in Blackpool in the UK. The city police had issued the CCTV footage of a man, who looked just like the 51-year-old actor, following a theft in Blackpool. The police had shared the image on Facebook, asking for witnesses to identify the man pictured leaving a restaurant in the town carrying what appeared to be a crate of cans. The photo went viral on the social media with many people noticing the similarities between Schwimmer and his doppleganger. In the spoof video, posted on Twitter, the actor reenacted the crime, pretending to steal beer cans from a supermarket. "Officers, I swear it wasn't me. As you can see, I was in New York. CBIMS proposal sent to Home Ministry
The Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) has sent a proposal for Comprehensive Integrated Border Management System (CBIMS) to the Ministry of Home Affairs."This (CBIMS) will be integrating the communication response from every sector. This will help in response time," said Director General of ITBP, RK Pachnanda.He added that the ITBP has introduced the system of war-game exercises, which would help in the planning and management of any eventuality related to the northern borders.The Home Ministry has already sanctioned two helicopters for the ITBP.The ITBP has established a Close Quarters Battle school for the recognition of good work by the commandos posted in Afghanistan. They are securing the Indian Embassy in Kabul and four other consulates in Mazar-e-Sharif, Herat, Jalalabad, and Kandahar. Ludhiana: Couple dupes jeweller, purchases gold jewellery worth lakhs with fake currency
A couple allegedly duped a jeweller in Ludhiana by giving him fake currency notes of 'Entertainment Bank of India' for the purchase of 56 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.90 lakh.Narrating the incident, shop owner Shyam Sundar Verma said that he came to know about fake notes after the couple left."A couple came and showed their interest to buy gold jewellery. Once the price was calculated, they handed me notes wrapped in a polythene bag and left in a hurry. After they left, I discovered the notes to be fake. The notes had 'Entertainment Bank of India' written on it in place of Reserve Bank of India," Verma said."It took me years to start this business and I have lost everything. I am not sure how can I recover from this severe loss," he added.The CCTV clips procured by the police revealed that the couple arrived in a car which did not even have registration plate on it.An FIR has been registered against the couple at Jodhan police station and a hunt is on to nab them.

Newly married man held for impregnating minor girl: Police
A newly married man was arrested Wednesday on charges of impregnating a teenaged girl after promising to marry her, police said. The painter, who got married only last week, was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said her parents took her to a hospital after she complained of frequent stomach pain. Tests there revealed that she was four months pregnant. On being questioned, the girl said that the painter, their neighbour, had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. The parents then filed a complaint, following which the man was arrested under the POCSO act, they said.

Couple, their two daughters killed as car plunges into canal
A couple and their two daughters, including a minor, were killed on Wednesday after their car plunged into a canal near Kharda Phate in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. The incident took place under Gogawa police station limits. "An engineer with Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA), C K Diwan, was travelling in his car with his wife and their two daughters- aged 18 and three- from Khargone to Gogawa when the mishap occurred," Superintendent of Police (SP) D Kalyan Chakraborty said. Diwan apparently lost control over the vehicle, due to which it veered off the road and fell into the canal near Kharda Phate, he said. All four of them died in the incident, Chakraborty said adding that the bodies were later fished out from the canal and sent for post-mortem.
