A couple allegedly duped a jeweller in Ludhiana by giving him fake currency notes of 'Entertainment Bank of India' for the purchase of 56 grams of gold jewellery worth Rs. 1.90 lakh.Narrating the incident, shop owner Shyam Sundar Verma said that he came to know about fake notes after the couple left."A couple came and showed their interest to buy gold jewellery. Once the price was calculated, they handed me notes wrapped in a polythene bag and left in a hurry. After they left, I discovered the notes to be fake. The notes had 'Entertainment Bank of India' written on it in place of Reserve Bank of India," Verma said."It took me years to start this business and I have lost everything. A newly married man was arrested Wednesday on charges of impregnating a teenaged girl after promising to marry her, police said. The painter, who got married only last week, was booked under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Police said her parents took her to a hospital after she complained of frequent stomach pain. Tests there revealed that she was four months pregnant. On being questioned, the girl said that the painter, their neighbour, had a physical relationship with her after promising to marry her. The parents then filed a complaint, following which the man was arrested under the POCSO act, they said.

A couple and their two daughters, including a minor, were killed on Wednesday after their car plunged into a canal near Kharda Phate in Khargone district of Madhya Pradesh, police said. The incident took place under Gogawa police station limits. "An engineer with Narmada Valley Development Authority (NVDA), C K Diwan, was travelling in his car with his wife and their two daughters- aged 18 and three- from Khargone to Gogawa when the mishap occurred," Superintendent of Police (SP) D Kalyan Chakraborty said. Diwan apparently lost control over the vehicle, due to which it veered off the road and fell into the canal near Kharda Phate, he said. All four of them died in the incident, Chakraborty said adding that the bodies were later fished out from the canal and sent for post-mortem.
