The Pakistan Tennis Federation (PTF) on Saturday said it is still waiting for a final confirmation of players and officials from the All-India Tennis Association (AITA) to participate in the Davis Cup tie in Islamabad. The World Group 1 play-off tie is scheduled to be played at the Islamabad Sports Complex on February 3 and 4. The AITF have sent us a list of 11 officials and 7 players who will be coming to Islamabad for visa processing. But we are still waiting for their final arrival confirmation. They (AITA) have said they will send it (confirmation) once they get clearance from their government to travel to Pakistan, Saleem Saifullah, the PTF President, said. Saifullah said the list of officials and players sent by the AITA included Anil Jain, the association's president, and Anil Dhupar, its secretary. The list also includes their captain Rohit Rajpal besides seven other players, he added. On December 26, the PTI reported from New Delhi that the AITA had sought the Sports ...
The All India Tennis Association (AITA) on Tuesday sought the Sports Ministry's advise on the national team's travel to Pakistan for the Davis Cup World Group 1 Play-off tie against the neighbours at Islamabad in February next year. The AITA's move came after the International Tennis Federation Tribunal rejected its request to shift the tie to a neutral venue. "We have asked for Sports Ministry's advise as to what is the policy on travelling to Pakistan. It's a World Cup of tennis. We are awaiting reply," AITA Secretary General Anil Dhupar told PTI. The tie is scheduled to be played at the Pakistan Sports Complex on February 3 and 4. Dhupar had earlier told PTI that the AITA will approach the Sports Ministry on Monday and seek guidance if they can send a team. India and Pakistan were last drawn against each other in 2019 and the tie was scheduled to take place across the border as the Indians had hosted the previous encounter in Mumbai in 2006. Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah traced the origin of his fine 2 for 19 spell that played a big part in India bowling out Pakistan for 191 in their World Cup match on Saturday to his ability to read the pitch at a venue where he played a lot cricket from the junior days. After bundling out Pakistan for a below-par score, India chased down the target in a little over 30 overs to celebrate a seven-wicket win. Bumrah was later adjudged as the player of the match. "I have played a lot of junior cricket on this ground. Since it was a flat wicket, I tried to implement that experience of mine here," Bumrah told Hardik Pandya in a video posted by BCCI. "Before getting hit for four boundaries, it's vital to realise about the wicket right after one boundary. That's what I was trying to communicate," he added. As fellow pacer Mohammed Siraj reminded Bumrah about his fiery spell against Afghanistan in Delhi, Bumrah attributed the success at that venue to the IPL. "There I tried to use my IPL experi
