New financial year: After MP, Telangana to move to a January-December cycle

BS ReporterHyderabad, 16 May: Telangana chief minister K Chandrasekhara Rao today announced that his government was ready to adjust its financial year to January-December calendar year in tune with the Centre's thought process.Chief minister Rao has held a meeting with the senior officials of the finance department on shifting fiscal year from April-March cycle that is in practice in India since 1867.Earlier this month Madhya Pradesh chief minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had announced that his government would change to the new financial year cycle by presenting its next annual budget in December this year. Madhya Pradesh was the first state to announce the change after the proposal for January-December financial year cycle was mooted by Prime Minister Narendra Modi in the governing council meeting of NITI Aayog last month.
