Farm workers, drivers largest growing jobs; cashiers most declining: Study

Farm workers and drivers will figure among the fastest growing jobs over the next five years, while roles of cashiers and ticket clerks will see the largest decline, a new study showed on Wednesday. In its Future of Jobs Report 2025, the World Economic Forum (WEF) also said that 170 million new jobs will be created by 2030, while 92 million are projected to be displaced, resulting in 78 million net new jobs. The report, released days before the WEF Annual Meeting in Davos from January 20-25, said that job disruption will equate to 22 per cent of jobs by 2030. Technological advancements, demographic shifts, geoeconomic tensions, and economic pressures are the key drivers of these changes, reshaping industries and professions worldwide. Drawing on data from over 1,000 companies, the study found that the skills gap continues to be the most significant barrier to business transformation today. Entry-level workforce across key sectors to earn better salaries: Report

Entry-level jobs, which were witnessing a slowdown, are getting a boost as freshers are offered competitive salaries across key sectors, led by Global Capability Centres (GCCs) and non-tech sectors, a report said on Thursday. The software development and engineering domain, which focuses on coding, designing, and maintaining software applications, is poised to offer lucrative opportunities, the report by TeamLease Digital said. It said the increasing demand for Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning (AI/ML) skills in software development to enhance productivity, accuracy, and innovation is further driving this trend. As a result, entry-level positions in this domain are expected to see an average salary of Rs 9.37 lakh per annum in GCCs, followed by Rs 6.23 LPA in IT products and services, and Rs 6 LPA in non-tech sectors by the end of 2024-25, the report added. Over 2.4 mn shortlisted during job fairs in five years: Jitendra Singh

Over 24 lakh candidates have been provisionally shortlisted during job fairs organised during the last five years, Union Minister of State for Personnel Jitendra Singh said on Thursday. In a written reply to the Rajya Sabha, Singh said 34,809 job fairs were conducted by state employment exchanges/model career centres during the last five years (2019-20 to 2023-24) as per information available with the Ministry of Labour & Employment. Job fairs are organised as part of the National Career Service (NCS) project under the administrative control of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, he said. In the five-year period, 26,83,161 jobseekers and 83,913 employers participated in the job fairs and 24,37,188 candidates have been provisionally shortlisted, he added.

As India is moving to become a semiconductor manufacturing hub, the industry is poised to generate 1 million jobs across varied sectors by 2026, a report said on Monday. With attrition rate as high as 40 per cent in the blue-collar job segment, a recent report revealed that over 40 per cent of those interviewed are still actively seeking new opportunities. Over 40 per cent of participants are currently employed but actively seeking new job opportunities, according to a report by blue-collar hiring platform WorkIndia. The report revealed that the quest for a better salary is a significant motivator, with 22 per cent of respondents indicating that financial compensation is their primary reason for job hunting. Additionally, 20 per cent of respondents cited career growth opportunities as a driving factor, while another 20 per cent noted personal motivations such as relocation, completing education, or changes in family circumstances, it stated. UPSC delays ESE-2025 after change in railways officers recruitment scheme

The UPSC on Friday postponed the Engineering Services Examination-2025 to give sufficient time to the aspirants for preparation, following a change in scheme for the recruitment of Indian Railway Management Service officers, according to an official statement. The decision came after the government decided that the recruitment to the IRMS would be made through both the Civil Services Examinations and the ESE. In order to give sufficient time to the aspirants of ESE-2025 to prepare for the examination, the Commission has decided to postpone the ESE (Preliminary) and ESE (Main) Exam, 2025, said the statement issued by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC). "The ESE (Preliminary) 2025 and ESE (Main) 2025 will now be held on 8th June 2025 and 10th August 2025, respectively," it added. As per the UPSC's annual programme of examination, 2025, the notification for the ESE-2025 was issued on September 18, 2024, with the last date of receipt of applications being October 8, 2024. The
