Global software major Infosys on Thursday said it will soon open a technology and innovation hub in the US state of Connecticut and hire about 1,000 American workers by 2022.
India's second largest software services firm Infosys will set up a new technology and innovation hub in Hartford, Connecticut, and hire 1,000 American workers in the state by 2022. Last year, Infosys had announced setting up of four such hubs and hiring about 10,000 locals in the US over the next two years. The Hyderabad police rescued 26 children, allegedly working as "bonded labourers" and nabbed a person, who was involved in trafficking these minors.Speaking to ANI, Hyderabad's District Child Protection officer, Md. Maharashtra Labour Minister Sambhaji Patil Nilangekar today caused a flutter in the Legislative Council when he linked opening of 34 lakh new EPF accounts to generation of as many jobs in the state during 2014 to 2018. However, an official of Labour department has denied the minister's claim. Speaking during a discussion on labour issues, the minister said, "A total of 34 lakh new Employees' Provident Fund (EPF) accounts have been opened between 2014 and 2018. This indicates new employment generation in the state". To support his claim, the minister said the state government has not given any permission since 2014 to close down factories. A Parliamentary panel today asked the government to assess Employees Pension Scheme 1995 and consider revision of minimum monthly pension of Rs 1,000 under that, saying the social security benefit is too meagre to fulfil even basic needs. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Labour in its 34th report tabled in Parliament today said it is of the firm opinion that this (Rs 1,000) is too meagre an amount which will not be able to fulfil even the basic monthly needs and requirements of a pensioner. The committee recommended that government undertake an assessment of the pension scheme with particular reference to the right of sustenance of the pensioners and based on the result, consider revision of the amount accordingly. The Telangana government today said it would set up an apparel park at Sircilla near Karimnagar. The apparel park would be established in 60 acres of land near Sircilla, with the objective to promote manufacturing readymade garments, a state goverment release said here. Indian companies are the eighth most optimistic lot globally in terms of hiring intentions for April-June with 16 per cent of employers likely to add more staff during the period, while Croatia topped the pack, says a survey. Employment in eight key sectors, including manufacturing, IT and transport, rose by 1.36 lakh on net basis in July-September this fiscal compared to the previous quarter, says a survey. Construction sector was the only segment that reported job losses of 22,000 in the second quarter of FY2017-18. "Estimates from present Quarterly Employment Survey reveal that there was an overall positive change of 1.36 lakh workers (in July-September) over the previous quarter (April-June), across eight sectors at all India level," the Quarterly Employment Survey by the Labour Bureau for for July-September stated. The Labour Bureau, a wing of Labour Ministry, stated that there were positive changes in seven out of eight sectors. Manufacturing sector added 89,000 jobs, education sector added 21,000 jobs while transport sector saw addition of 20,000 jobs. "ESIC has taken a decision to set up one super speciality hospital in each state. At present, ESI Corporation is running two super speciality hospitals at Sanath Nagar, Telangana and Asramam, Kollam, in Kerala," Minister of State for Labour and Employment Santosh Kumar Gangwar said in a written reply in Lok Sabha today. Formed under the ESI Act, ESIC applies to premises with 10 or more number of employees. Bengaluru Metro Rail Corporation Limited employees' union today threatened to go on an indefinite stir from March 22 to press their charter of demands including higher wages and according recognition to the union. The Metro management warned that it would invoke provisions of the Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) and action would be taken if anyone resorts to disrupting metro services.
